What a lucky dog!

Well I posted on here 10 days ago that I had reached my 1 year of deciding to make a change but was a little bummed out about not having found a job in Accounting yet. Last night I was made an offer and I start on Tuesday. Yeah, another piece of my life is back. Anyway I just wanted to offer some words of encouragement. Keep it one day at a time and things will start to fall into place. I have finally gotten to the point again where I can set a goal and work to achieve it.

But I'm not sure if it is my hard work or the dog that just showed up on my farm 3 days ago. This dog seems to have some magical job seeking abilities. I think I'll keep her around for a little while. I wouldn't want to risk anything by getting rid of her. Call me crazy but as soon as she showed up things started to change for the positive. I'm not sure what to name her... She is black and white and is very lucky. Any suggestions?

Keep it real, work hard, and remember one day at a time.

Congratulations on your new job!

I love dogs, please keep her! You need to come up with a good name that relates to your sobriety. LOL...by the way, great job on your one year coming up!

I believe that God gives us signs all the time...and just maybe, this dog is your sign that things are lookin' up!

RoadGuy, congratulations, congratulations and congratulations!!

So much great news all at once, I barely know what to do with it, lol...

You should be very, very proud of where you are, and I sincerely appreciate your words of encouragement.

I love how you described being won over by the lucky dog that just adopted you.

You're right, she should have a very special name. I like the idea of making it meaningful. Do you have any idea what kind of breed or mix she might be? I'm assuming she's a large dog? Would you be more inclined to give her a dog name or a human name?

I've put together some ideas:

Hope
Grace
Mercy
Serenity

Mary Poppins
Stella (like your lucky star)
Vicky, short for Victoria (from the word victory)
Tabitha
Dawn
Gwen/Gwendolyn
Merryweather
Clara

Thank you steppingitup for all of the great suggestions and I am going with Zoe because I really do feel that now that I have a great job with a great company that I have a fresh start and literally a new life ahead of me. Zoe started out running out into the fields every time that I came around. But when I got the news of the new job she greeted me at the car and licked my hand. Now she is hanging around when I'm outside and is starting to let me pet her without tucking her tail. I think she may have been from a family where the boyfriend or husband was abusive because she has been a little slow in coming around to me. But when my girlfriend came over she was right there with her the whole time. Thank you again and I'll make sure Zoe is taken cared for.

I'm so happy for you and Zoe....(by the way, I love that name!)
Good Luck to both of you and take care of each other.
She's a very 'lucky dog' to have you!

I named one dog "dogface" and one cat "catface", so I'd remember their names when I was drunk. I'm thinking about changing them, but they may not like having their names changed, sigh.

Congrats on the job, and I'm glad a stray showed up at your place instead of mine for a change!

RoadGuy, how cool!! Zoe is an awesome name! Great choice!

My very, very best wishes to you and Zoe!! It's great that she's showing more signs that she's gaining your trust. Just give her a little time and a lot of love!

By the way, I picked up a big stack of dog care and training books before we adopted our puppy, and they made the whole process so much easier than it would have been without them. My personal favorite is The Puppy Whisperer by Paul Owens. You might want to consider seeing if there's a book )on adult dogs) that clicks with you.

There's nothing quite like the bond between a good person and a good pet!! Again, my very best wishes to you both. :ghug2

My 2 cats are gifts in my recovery. I never grew
up with pets and wasnt sure if i ever wanted
any. About 8 or 9 yrs sober my family was blessed
with 2 cats. We named them Lucky and Gus.

Ive had other wonderful gifts added to my
sobriety and im so grateful and thankful for
them.

Thanks for sharing with us.

Awwww.....I am SO glad I clicked on this thread this morning....

And Steppin you are so thoughty to post those names for Roadguys dog!!...I just love Texans! It is so funny when texans come up to Alaska..They can complain about the winter with a style I have rarely seen another state produce..!!! Between their way with words and their drawl!!! Love ya!

I love what you said..."I can finally work toward a goal and acheive it"...hey that is no small feet for us dope fiends!!

You know the saying.."Addicts consistently set low goals...then fail to acheive them!!" Boy is that ME...nice to be able to get what we want by staying sober....and finding out along the way that the results are not immediate...but they always come if we work for them..
I am just so glad I am not dope sick today...SO glad....I can enjoy the springtime ..

((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((ZOE))))))))))))))))) )))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
love north
