Unhappy Ambien not working anymore for sleep.

Is this rebound Insomnia because I was on Trazodone? I want to be put back on 150mg of Trazodone so badly because that's the only thing that helps me fall asleep, but my shrink says it's not good for my heart. Why he thinks this I do not know. I've been on Trazodone since 2003. My heart is just fine. I'm currently taking 10mg of Ambien a night and I haven't fell asleep in 3 days. I feel like a zombie. I went out to buy some Unisom for tonight. Question is will this work? The addict in me is telling me to take an extra Ambien. So 20mg of Ambien total. I'm desperate.

One part of the reason why I can't get to sleep is that I'm in a lot of pain. My new PCP put me on Neurotin 400mg 3 times a day. It helped with the pain for the first week, but alas, it stopped working. In my dreams I'd be on Vicodin again. At least that helped for as long I was on it with pain.

I just wanna sleep.

I was on ambien once and I was getting up in the middle of the night and eating! I told my doctor and he said, "that's o.k. as long as you don't wake up and find yourself in the McDonalds drive thru!"
Anyhoo, I'm now on 50mg of trazodone @ night. My doctor said it's good for chronic insomnia and it's really helping me. Even as a little girl I never could sleep.

It's a pretty good drug for sleep. It helped me for years(after the Seroquel hell) and my body rarely built up a tolerance to it. The dose increased very slowly over the years. With Ambien however, it seems my body has built up a tolerance pretty fast. Weird thing is like it stopped helping me fall asleep over night.

I've heard of people getting blackouts while taking Ambien. Good thing is it hasn't happened to me.

Ok I'm a insomniak for a long time.Trazadone helped for a while.Ambien put me to sleep for a short time and I did get up eat Ice cream and had no memory so that was out. Then Elivil 150mg worked great for years but Dr. says not good for my heart. There is an over the counter called calms forte I think the brand is Hyland you can get it in the health food store it works. Now if I go more that 7 days my Dr. gives me cloral hydrate its controled and we have a deal with the pharmasist I have a prescription that the pharm lady only gives to my wife and only 1 days worth.I have to have it this way because I can get addicted to anything. Hope this helps I know how bad it is not to sleep

I dunno man. We do build up a tolerance to Ambien ,same as a lot of drugs.

They have a pretty high potenial for abuse. (if one or 2 doesn't work.............)

I build up tolerances to sleeping meds and most any other dope, super fast.

Don't go taking extra.

Lack of sleep won't kill you (as Windy says) but F-ing around with those things will mess up your life bad!

You'll need more and more to sleep properly ...............and then more and more.

(IMHO) Those things as best takin for the occasional sleepless nights, lets say once or twice a month, max.

I tried Ambien and it did nothing for me except make me feel foggy and it was almost an out of body experience. I can't take the stuff. I also have chroninc insomnia, once I fall asleep I am fine but its the getting to sleep part that I have trouble with. I take plain old benadryl and it really helps. Unisom works well too.

I was on the big A for four years 20mg a night At the end of this little mission I somtimes took 100mg and was snorting it. Please dont try snorting it. But my point is I will abuse anything. Ive never slept right it sux so bad makes me feel useless about myself because of my sleep patterns. Im trying to get into a routin of getting up at the same time everyday and it is so hard for me im trying but i just dont know if i can do this.

May I ask what is the physical cause of your pain? I also have chronic pain (from degenerative disc disease).

Thanks Emmer. That's something Windy would say. I got 3 hours of sleep last night. Better then nothing I suppose. I fell asleep during Blade Runner. Hahahaha...

Problem is when I don't sleep I get really, really anxious and pretty depressed.

Hi Baggervance...

I would never try snorting anything. I don't like stuff up my nose(This goes for Nasal spray or anything)...so don't worry.

Scrolious. 93% curve in my Spine before the surgery. I had the surgery when I was 18 where they placed two metal rods in my back, but I'm still in a lot of pain 10 years later. I haven't found a non-narcotic pain reliever that works yet. The only ones that have worked were opiates.

Another thing you could try is the herbal remedy Valerian root. 300mg was enough to knock me flat out.

Thanks for answering my question. I wasn't sure what you were dealing with physically.

I see a pain management specialist for epidural injections into my tailbone. That knocks out the sciatica (burning pains down into my legs), but I still have the lower back pain.
