Recovery Luxuries

Change forPenny got me thinking, I wonder what you all do to treat yourself whilst you are recovering. It might give some good ideas to others.

I love:

Long hot baths with essential oils,
Crisp white, clean sheets,
Spending time with my kitten and hearing her purring,
A new pair of leather trousers!!

What are your luxury 'tools'?

Love to all,
Ingrid xxx

leather trousers, look out!! just kidding, lol.

Tish, what a great thread.

Each week I go to the store and treat myself to a new toy. last week I bought a bicycle, and this week I bought a new grill. I figure I would have spent much more than that at the bar, so I'm actually saving money.

Also, I keep the dishes washed, which, I gotta tell you, I didn't before. I bought paper plates just so I wouldn't have to wash the dishes, but the cups and silverware kept stacking up. Now, I don't leave the dishes sitting for days on end, yuck, but I did do that. (just don't tell my neighbors, lol)

I need to watch my spending, because it was part of my addiction. Unemployment goes but so far. Every day my bank account is not in the hole is a luxury.
That said, I bought myself a new "Blitz" phone with QWERTY keyboard and mobile email because, with so many kids in my show, I now have to keep up with texting and Facebook. I tell people it was my reward for being such a good boy in the hospital. Would never have had it if I was still using.

Off to discover what the hell else this little wonder does, I remain,

As Tish will tell you, I'm still not good at the homemaker thing...never been my style. That said, I do try to keep the dishes in order. Thanks for the reminder.

Now I have to go do the dishes instead of play with my phone...so I remain,

I've always been a 'girly girl' and for the most part, I've always taken care of myself. But that last year before recovery, I stopped caring and THAT really scared my family, cause they knew how I was about stuff like that, especially my mom, (God rest her soul),cause she's the one I inherited it from.

I love hot bubble baths. And I'm obsessed with lotions by Philosophy and Bath and Body Works. I just got a new lotion by BBW called 'fresh butterfly' and OMG, it smells so good.
I never go to bed at night without putting it all over me. My husband loves it because whatever scent lotion I use, it make our sheets smell so good.
I've been going to the tanning bed again also, something I'd not done for two years. I feel like you just look healthier with a tan, but not overdone. But, I'm real careful about tanning my face, so I put spf on it so I'll tan it a little slower.
I feel like I'm rambling, but gosh these things make me feel good! I can't believe where I was last year at this time compared to now. I'm so grateful!

Meetings were my reward before I started being stalked there. I need to find some new outlets. Maybe a new place to meet people. I'm isolating, and that's no good for me.

You really hit on it for me when you mentioned procrastination is your post! I was Queen of the procrastinators! What is is about us as addicts that make this apart of the disease? I can't tell you how many times I let my power get cut off for not paying the bill. It had nothing to do with money, I had the money, I just kept putting it off.
Nowadays, my bill are paid on time and it feels so good, I can't tell you!

I am all about the coffee... make myself freshly ground espresso every morning. I also love spending time reading devotional books... curling up to spend time reading and praying when I used to always be running from myself! That time feels luxurious to me.

Yeah, coffee is also a big deal for me nowadays. As the saying goes, "wake up an smell the coffee", well even though I'm currently unemployed right now, (by choice...My husband and I decided that I needed to concentrate on my recovery for one year before going back to work...which is also a luxury) I set the timer every morning on the coffee pot to go off @ 6:00am and it fills the air with my favorite, freshly ground Starbucks breakfast blend. It's so nice to be up at that time of morning, it's quiet. It's my favorite time of day!
I used to never pay attention to time. It just didn't matter to me cause I was getting high all the time and I slept only when my body told me to. The when I woke up, I just started the madness all over again. My life now couldn't be more different. I'm so blessed.

Penny

P.S. Don't get me wrong, I love my NA meeting I attend, but they make decaffeinated coffee!!!:wtf2

I left out one of my favorite luxuries, (blushing)....SEX....It's fan-freaking-tastic!!!
Honestly, my sex drive kinda went missing during active addiction. My husband at one time even accused me of having an affair. I was having and affair alright....with pills and cocaine!
There's nothing better than a healthy sex life!

Deciding today, to never lie again,
Running in the wind,
Singing, even if it's false,
Dancing the boogie woogie with my little boy,
Daring to ring my bank manager
....so many things.

Have a lovely, special day my friends,
Tish x
