What is an "Anniversary Meeting"?

At my Wednesday meeting tonight, they announced there is an 'anniversary meeting' next Tuesday a few towns over.....and a few people asked me if I was going.

What exactly is an 'anniversary meeting'??

Yeah, I don't know for sure, but it sounds like "pin night" or "medallion night." Or that's what we call it around here.

It could also be the Anniversay of when that meeting started.

However, the easiest way to find out the truth is to just GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. rofl

Different terms for meetings in different parts of the country.

Love and hugs,

In this area, an anniversary meeting is a meeting that celebrates the anniversary of the group -- not of group members. Here (upstate/western NY) anniversary meetings typically feature both AA and Al Anon speakers (and sometimes even Al Ateen speakers) and we usually have food -- anything from snacks to a real potluck meal, depending on the group. Sometimes anniversary meetings start 30-60 minutes earlier than usual and/or last 30-30 minutes longer than usual to give people time to eat and visit.

They are usually fun and the speakers are usually good; some groups even bring speakers in from out-of-town. Typically, the speaker(s) take up the entire meeeting time, except for an abreviated opening.

In my area, anniversary meetings are for members, not meetings, most of the time. And I'm East Coast. So maybe it's different by area???

In the Anons in NJ that I have attended, an anniversary meeting is the anniversary of the group and exactly like Freya described (in my home Naranon Group we could feed a small army with some really amazing food, lol)
I find anniversary meetings really uplifting - so much hope and ESH. The speakers i've seen have been terrific...so inspiring. Hope you can make it JG!
