Just checking in...
I know it's been a while. I have hit my bottom in recent weeks. Let myself have a nervous breakdown about a week ago and then decided it's time to pull on my big girl britches and get to work. Yes I am still struggling with alcoholism. But I'm not drinking because I've had a bad summer, or I'm lonely, or because I'm having marital problems...I am drinking because I am an alcoholic, I have been for a long time and of all the areas of my life that need attention, that is the most important right now.
I am going to a meeting tonight. I am a little freaked out because I live in a small town. I'm afraid to be the "outsider", but fear is what has kept me where I'm at. At this point I am willing to go far out of my comfort zone. I met a good friend here on SR who has also been struggling and it has been a great help in this journey to have someone to confide in and compare notes with. It inspires me to get well, so by the Grace of God I go...
I hope everyone is doing well and I hope you all have a great day today.

fallingdown...I'm so glad you posted to share where you are at with us! I have 2 big dogs trying to get on my lap right now ....but wanted to say how happy I am....:ghug
Hey fd.....you must live near dallas as i wouldn't think dallas was a smal town LOL!
It seems to me that most (not all) people who go to meetings are pretty discrete....even the people who return to drinking or decide not to go usually respect the boundry of ananimoty pretty well....

Hi Ananda! Good to hear from you. I live about 25 miles away from Dallas. I have two small towns within 10 miles, and both have meetings. At this point I'm not really worried about people talking, I don't think I'm that interesting. I guess what worries me is feeling shut out. But it's silly for me to judge without even trying so I am going to give it a go. Anything is better than what I have been doing, which is nothing. I went through a very weird, first time ever for me phase a few weeks ago. Where I just stopped talking to just about everyone. Stopped reading SR, stopped talking to friends and family. It was weird. I guess I was stewing in my own misery. I feel like I desperately need support because I am not getting it at home, so I am taking the initiative on my own behalf. Wish me luck.
I hope all is well, give the dogs a pet from me!!
