Share Your Saying and Slogans
Everybody in recovery uses steps and slogans to help get though life.
Share what helps you, so you can help others. We know the main slogan... One Day at a Time, Easy Does It, The Serenity Prayer and so on.
Help another alcoholic or drug addict...tell us what works for you!!
If you don't disipline yourself, the world will do it for you and you won't like it!!
SERENITY is not getting what I want but wanting what I have!!

Hi, mine are "think it through" and "keep it simple"
I find that "think it through" is often enough for me for binge drinking that would occur at home (not going to a bar or party), since my mind wants to seize on the opportunity to drink and not think beyond that. One thing it made me notice was that thinking pattern I developed when I was not sober. For instance, if I had a bad day, I might get wrapped up in being pissed off about whatever was happening, then I would think, "beer later when i get outta work" and that's about as far as I would get. Then I was just, reacting from then on. When I remember the "think it through" slogan, I am encouraged to imagine all the things that would be likely to result from drinking, from beginning to (the bitter!) end, and by the time I get around to really deep imagery about the hangover experience (as I am sure everyone here can pretty much re-live that process in their minds!) I am definitely ready to avoid alcohol.
The "Keep it simple" one I try and use for when I know there is an event coming up (along with think it through) because my mind will imagine how awful it will be without being able to drink and think things like, "what can I possibly do at the party/concert/barbecue/whatever if I dont drink? How will I get through the night? I mean what about dinner where I woul dnormally have wine and what about the pre concert beers and what about when we get inside the club what will I do then and how will it be what will it be like blah blah blah" my mind just, RUNS away from me, so then I have to stop and say, "keep it simple." and that "simply" means, DON'T DRINK. So it reminds me that instead of getting myself all worked up about it I need to just relax and remember that all I really have to do is just not drink. that's all. I can have water, soda, tea, coffee, all other kinds of beverages, and I will still have a good time (a much better time actually!)
hmm hope this was ok to elaborate on the slogans and how they are helpful! thanks for listening =)

I like "Don't Believe Everything You Think." This helps me when I think I need a drink or I think someone is angry or annoyed with me or I think I have a crappy life or I think....well, you get the picture. Glad you started this thread. It's a good one.
If you like what you're getting keep doing what your doing! If you don't like what you're getting keep doing what you're doing and you will keep getting what you're getting! Today I like what I am getting so I will keep doing what I've been doing!
There But for the Grace of God go I
live in the NOW
practice an attitude of gratitude
sorrow is looking back, worry is looking around
get out of the driver's seat.......let go and let god
the road to disappointment is paved with expectation

"You can start your day over anytime." My children and I tell this to each other when we make mistakes. It has helped us with love, acceptance and forgiveness.
I am also a big fan of "you can't control what other people do, just how you react to them." I overheard my six year old explaining that to a little girl who was visiting the other day. It made me proud.

Fake it until you make it.
Still working on this one, but it rings so true for me. I keep waiting for the light to shine down from heaven, the choir to sing, and suddenly I don't want to drink anymore. I keep waiting for it to be easy to stay sober.
