Daily reprieve!!!

Just learned last night that a guy in my area went back out after 22 years...................... in about 3 months he has gotten 2 DUIs and probably would have gotten a 3rd when he wrecked his motorcycle. Say a prayer for him, his sponsor who has been his sponsor the whole time he was in the program said he simply let him know that he was welcome back any time he was ready again.

Will pray for him..

The ones that relapse after long term sobriety are the hardest ones to get back. they usually end up dead.

Hope he makes it back.

Cunning, baffling and powerful. I will definitely keep him in my prayers.

I sponsor someone who went back out a month before her 20th birthday. You are right when you say that it is hard for folks like that to come back. She's still having problems, but she's still trying. As with the person just starting out on the steps, my sponsee will be the first to tell you that "willingness" is the key to success. "Keep bringing the body and the mind will follow."

My prayers are with all of those who are struggling right now.

It has been really great to have some people in our meetings that drank after many years of sobriety, and are once again in recovery....not that i want to see anyone return to drinking, ...sorry to see that happen to anyone, but it sure has been an inspiration to me as someone who drank again after years and is now returned.

I am ever grateful to those who do the R&D for me regarding being cured. I just got back from a cup of coffee with a man who got sober in 1947. I asked him, "Dick, do you even remember what whiskey tasted like?" He looked at me and said, "just like it was yesterday!" and he went on to remind me why after all these years he still works the program and I see him in as many meetings as I do. His comment was, "I am 61 years away from my last drink, but just as close to my next one as the fellow who walked into the rooms for his very first time today!"

Best wishes to your friend Taz, and keep coming back no matter what.

Jon

Prayer is about the only thing you can do for him. With 22 years in the program he already knows the doors of AA are always open.

I remember all too well the taste of the stuff I used to drink. When I'm watching football and a beer commercial comes on with the sweat running down the side of the glass and it's a hot day, I still think how good a beer would taste. Then, I laugh at the thought of just one. I never could/did stop at just one. Just never seemed to be enough, so I have to remember this. The further I am from my last drink, the closer I am to my next. Good reminder!!
