Day Five! Made it!!!
Day Five! Made it!!!
I have made it through day 5. Typically, I make it to day 5, and relapse. This time I made it through. I'm in Wisconsin and you can't buy alcohol after 9 (it's 8:30). I was doing fine until a using buddy called me up and asked me to go out. I said no but then started paying games with myself. I drove down to the car wash and washed my car. I also stopped by Wal Mart and bought a 3.5 pound bag of hard candy. On my 6th piece now, but the craving has passed. I am calm again and have made it longer than I have in months! Not only that, but it's on the tail of my first sober weekend in a year! That was close though. I have non-drinking friends but they don't know I am struggling with this. I think I may finally attend AA and make some new recovering friends. :praying
i know how hard it is when you get there standing on your own jumpin' off point and pass it.
congrats on running over that old bum "craving" with hard candy!!!! awesome!
thanks for the story--im on day 10 and need to hear stuff like that.

No way could I have stayed sober and enjoyed
it without my AA friends. ..
Good to see you are making progress
I also found hard candy a help in early sobriety.
Yes! you too can recover

Thank you so much for your support and encouragement everyone! I am wrapping up day 6 right now. One thing I've noticed is that I've been incredibly hungry. I want to eat every 2 hours or so. I am thinking it's my body telling me it wants alcohol but it's coming up as hunger. Is this normal? Maybe my body will realize it's only getting food from now on and not liquor.
Free,
Very normal. Almost everyone I talked to ate more - and better - food as they continued their sobriety. I had turkey breast, corn and apples tonight. That beats the hell out of Taco Bell late night drive thrus!
Also there is a sticky here somewhere about what to expect, it is definitely worth the read.

Free,
I find it very helpful to find fun activities, or even chores, that I can do to distract myself during the times when I want to obsess about drinking. It is helpful to find others you can talk to about it in person or by phone. Anything to keep you mind off it. Eventually, the positive things in life will replace the obsession to drink.
Congratulations and keep up the good work.

Way to go on your day six. Believe me when I tell you that it only gets better from here on out.
