Question on Withdrawal (non-medical related)

I've been 7 days sober since my last drink, and 7 days sober before that.

I'm extremely irritable and anxious, to the point I'm mean. When will this subside?

Anyone expierence this personally?

Hi Vig, I to am 7 days. Have the same issues. Mine depends on the time of day and whom I am dealing with. I have lots of mood swings. I think that it takes weeks and months to get back to normal or as close as possible. Myself I may have done some permenent damage? As an old friend of mine use to say about heself after many years of drug n alchol abuse, Hey man am damaged goods! Aleast he was honest about it LOL!

Day!

Hey Vig. Congrats on you r seven days. That is a major step.

The irritability is a natural result of coming of a "substance". We all experience it and it will pass. I always think of it like the brain is this ball from which the booze is cascading downward and uncovering parts that have been, for so long a time, immersed in the sauce. It like the synapese are beginning to fire in this random order as they are uncovered making you feel all weird. They should settle down very soon. Also, I would think that after just a week that you are still partially hungover as you continue to release the toxins from your system.
Just my non-medical opinion of course.

Now, aren't you glad you glad that you took that first drink???????????

Peace. And continued success with your sobriety. Keep posting.

I believe it will subside, yes.

The 12-Step program can alleviate some of the mean feelings too, I believe.

Hi,

I think that is normal to feel that way. It takes some patience to get through the first days. Hang in there and you will feel better soon.

Yes, I experienced both. I can't remember how long it took but both went away eventually. I also saw a Dr. and a treatment counselor during my first week to make sure I was physically OK and to enroll in treatment.

I would recommend seeing a Dr. if you haven't already, for me just getting the clean bill of health reduced my anxiety.

I too was irritable to the point of being mean. It does go away with time, just depends on the individual how much time. It felt like forever, I'm sure, to the people I was being 'mean' to.

At day 7 I was completely gone still, In a Rage and Terrified, still shaking and not sleeping.

It takes time. Try to be good to yourself and welcome to SR
