New and lost on the forums
New and lost on the forums
Hello everyone
I signed up a while ago but only chatted in the chatroom on and off. Now I'm ready to start looking around the forums to see what I can find that will help me in my recovery.
Where do I start? I've had a bit of a look around but feel a bit lost within the forums.
A little about me...
I've been sober for 5.5 months and have been going to AA meetings for the last 5-6 weeks. I've been going 2-3 nights a week (only 3 close enough to get to a week) and have started opening up to talk in the last 2 weeks.
I've read the BB from front to end and didn't absorb much. I then downloaded the mp3s from the silkworth website and really understood what Joe and Charlie were saying when describing the BB.
I've admited I am powerless over Alcohol and understand that I require a HP to help me with my recovery and life. I am not religious or have ever been to church etc so have no negative thoughts or negative relationship with any God. So I am more than happy to have a HP in my life.
I'm working through my steps slowely but surely but feel that it is hard doing it by myself. I have had a look at the AA meetings and haven't met someone that I would want as my sponsor yet so thought I would come here and see if I could get some help with questions
Where shall I start on the forums?
Any particular posts in general I can read to help me on my way?
Thank you so much to everyone for being here for me.

hi Kiwi -
Welcome to the forum part of SR!
I dunno -
maybe start reading the Stickies at the top of the Alcoholism and the AA forums?
There's always a wealth of reading in all the forums...
glad to meet you!

Welcome to SR!
You can start in the Newcomers, Alcoholism, there's the thread for the 12 Steps of AA, . . . .
If you need help with the Steps in general, my advice is the 12 Step Forum.
Don't make it too complicated. Like the saying in AA goes, Keep it Simple.
Glad to have ya here. Just keep reading and jump in anywhere.
God Bless,
Judy

My favorite is the Newcomer's forum because reading of others' struggles is helpful in two ways: it allows to remember where I came from and it allows me to support others in their struggle, which helps me stay sober. And the 'stickies' at the top of each forum are a wealth of information.
Welcome to a wonderful place!

Kiwi,
Boy, I have to say that I think you're off to an amazing start. Your committment to your recovery shines through in what you say.
Re: a sponsor - I sort of think that you have a very good chance of having the sponsor things resolve itself if you just give it time. In other words, don't worry or fret about it. You're doing great right now and following a path that seems to be just right for you. When I met my sponsor, I didn't even realize it until the words just fell out of my mouth, "Will you be my sponsor?" I was surprised to find I'd said that! And she's wonderful for me. Not saying that's how it always works but just that when I read your posts, I believe you are doing exactly what you are supossed to be doing right now. And a darn good job of it, too.
Re: Forums and this site. I pretty much stay here because I get overwhelmed with trying to keep up with too much coorsepondence. But I know there are lots of places to explore. I've also found the friend and family site valuable as I've worked through issues with my spouse and family. So, in this regard, you've already found a good place to start also!
I think you're doing GREAT. (Can you tell?)
Love,
MLE
