No more lurking...
Hi everyone.
I've been lurking on the site for the last two days, and found a very supportive environment and a lot of good information.
I'm a Newbie not only to the site, but to AA. I'm on Day Three! Part of me is screaming "how lame is it that you are proud on not drinking for three days?!?" but a bigger part of me is VERY proud because I have not been sober for three days straight in WELL over a year or maybe two.
I feel like I'm too happy for the stage of recovery that I am in (if that makes any sense). I feel like I should be beating myself up more... I'm utterly ashamed of my own behavior as a drunk, but today I have such a sense of hope!

You have found a great community.
I suggest you may have been beating yourself up with alcohol. I was.
I also suggest that you have good reason to be proud. Three days is three days that you didn't have before. Also, if you are like most of us, it didn't just "dawn" on you 3 days ago that you have a drinking problem. I suspect that you have been grappling with it for a long time, you came to a difficult conclusion, and found the courage to act.
That is a HUGE accomplishment, my friend. Millions are unwilling or unable to do the work that you have already done. In addition, you sought out this place (help) and are posting. Congratulations.
Keep it up. You can do it. I and many others will be sharing and watching!

Otter Welcome to SR so glad that you found us and decided to stop LURKING!! Be proud of 3 days and continue to day 4-Try patting yourself on the back and no more beating yourself up!
