Finding fun things to do without drugs
Good afternoon,
I just joined these forums and have a question in regards to recovery. I used to smoke pot and quit cold turkey for a year and have the following problem.
When I used to smoke I was happy and spent my time relaxing, watching movies, going to the park, walking and so forth. Now that I've stopped those things don't really seem fun anymore. What's worse is that everything I've tried that I would think would be fun isn't fun.
How does one find out what makes them happy once they've quit smoking?

Welcome to SR.....
Find something that will engage your mind.
Learning how to fly a plane
Cook gourmet meals
SCUBA dive....Take a class in music or art.
Action...fun requires action for me.
Well done on your clean time!

I had that problem with weed too way back. Everything seemed so much funner on stoned. More interesting. I still to this day dont know why.
I moved on to harder drugs and found it to be the same way.
I dont have hardly any time in. But I have had some really good times sober since I started looking for recovery.
For me it is all about having fun in almost any situation. I try to laugh at as much as I can. Not in a bad way. Just being a total goof. I am a clown anyway.
It is possible to have fun sober.

I think the long term goal is to be fun, for me thats an ongoing process of recovery and getting to know and like myself and because of that others.
I spend time with people, do meetings, read a lot and spend much time with my HP, ride my bike, go to the gym, play with my dogs, spend time with my daughter, write sometimes, housekeeping, shopping and clothes shopping , come here ...... Life is full but I wondered teh same in early days.

I have found that I am a completely different person sober, and I like to do different things than I used to.
Turns out, I love to run. Never would've before, unless the cops were chasing me.
Also, I quit doing alot of things I did when I was younger because I was always wasted. Playing tennis, playing music, all kinds of things. Now I really enjoy them, more so than when I was young even.
A book that helped me alot was living sober. It's an AA book, but regardless of your recovery program it's got loads of good stuff in it. It's full of ideas on things to do with your new found freedom and time.
It helped me alot.

I like to run too but cant. I am too slow.
I really love volleyball and riding a beach cruiser.
Things I would not and could not do high.
