Active Addiction
Active Addiction
so i want to thank you all for being around. it's only through the wisdom that i've read here that i've been able to deal with what's going on here lately.
my best buddy in sobriety relapsed, and now won't return my calls or anything. at first i was really angry, but then i remembered that she's an alcoholic in the midst of active addiction, and what everyone on this board says is "that's what addicts do." it is. you guys are right. i'd be doing the same thing if it were me that relapsed, and not my dear friend. she's not really HER when she's drinking, she's an unchecked alcoholic when she's drinking. even with a year of sobriety, it's not going to change the person she is when she drinks.
it took me weeks to get to that, and it finally hit me yesterday after i read one of the posts here. so, thank you, from the bottom of my recovering heart.
much love and respect.

Hi Emily -
It's an eye-opener when WE are the ones clean, watching someone we care about in active addiction, isn't it? I initially came to the F&F because I'm a huge codie, but have recently had my stepsister go thru detox for an addiction. Thanks to all the wonderful people here, I was able to help her AND not get all wrapped up in trying to fix her. Heck, I read most of the forums here because I can identify with the people posting...always get great ES&H!
Hugs and prayers!
Amy
