Surprisingly good Thanksgiving!

So, i was dreading Thanksgiving, you know the expectations and all. But it turned out okay after all. My older son and I drove two hours and picked up my youngest son at the recovery house, then drove to my sister's house another hour away. We had a wonderful feast with my mom there and 3 out of 5 sisters there. My youngest son, who recently put me through a huge turmoil, was actually open and pleasant with his family. He was excited about going. We talked as a family about his progress and it just felt good. We drove home, stopped at the boys other grandma's house for a few minutes and that made her day. Once we got back home, I expected my AS to be out the door, but he stayed in and visited and was just pleasant. Not to paint an unrealistic picture, there are a few unresolved issues going on ( his nonattentive father, what will happen when he comes home in a month, etc.) but overall, it was one of the better thanksgivings I can remember. I am trying to stay in the day though and just thank god for one day of sobriety for my son and one day of love from my family.

krhea, I am happy that your day was a good one with your sons & the rest of your family. After disappointments we can really apprec. when our ASs show up, are pleasant and we can have a good time with them W/0 addiction being an issue.
Wishing you many more days like that.

Krhea,
I am so glad you had a peaceful T-day. It's amazing because of what we have been through that it has taught us to live in the day and keep our expectations low.

hugs.........Lo
