You can get it at the library or any bookstore, and yes most meetings sell them, and I'm pretty sure you can read it online, too. Let me see if I can find you a link.
Another book which I found helpful is called 'Living Sober' some bookstores and meeting locations will sell it.
Here is the link to read 4th edition of BB online. How cool!

I got a copy of the Big Book when I went to an AA meeting. I stayed after to chat with another member and ask a couple questions, and he gave me a copy. It's obviously outdated, but it's still a very interesting read. I ate it up.
Re: other books... I also got a copy of the Rational Recovery book from a local Borders. Definitely not as engaging to read. Thus far I haven't gotten past the first thirty pages or so.
Ro's right, it's available online, too.

If you haven't already read it, the Sticky at the top of the Alcoholism forum, Under the Influence is an excerpt from that book which is excellent. I ordered a copy through my library of it and it's follow-up, Beyond the Influence, which was very informative and easy to read. Lots of info about alcoholism.

My favorite source for understanding alcoholism is
"Under The Influence" by Milam & Ketcham
It's the book that convinced me to quit.
We have excerpts here
http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...influence.html
It has a sequel by Ketcham
"Beyond The Influence"
Both are usually in stock at Amazon . com
relatively inexpensive.

Thanks everyone - I am going to the bookstore. I read some online, enough to know that I NEED to read it.
P.S. I work in the ER as an RN at a Christian based hospital (system), and it feels sooo good in the morning when we have our "energizer". Only positive thoughts, we pray, and as much as I have considered myself an agnostic, it sure feels good to ask "someone" up there for support. It feels good to look around the room and feel warmth and support; much as I expect AA might feel. I've gotta read that Big Book!
Thanks again everyone!!
