Thumbs down Is it true that...

Hi everyone

Is it true that alcohol completely negates (cancels out) any effects/benefits of vitamin/mineral intake by the body when a person eats after consuming alcohol because the liver is too busy processing the alcohol?. Should I just eat sawdust after an evening of drinking?. In other words, I drink 10 beers and then eat a 10-ingredient salad...is my body getting/processing any of that?...any at all?.

Thanks, I've always wondered (actually obsessed) over this. If I drink one evening, should I save all the healthy stuff for the following morning when I'm sober and able to use those vitamins/minerals again?.

Well, you're going to have more problrms than THAT, but yes, alcohol does inhibit the uptake of certain vitamins, most noteably the B complex group.

Obsessed huh ? You may be one of us !

I'm one of you??..Oh no!!...LOL . I once went through a list of all the foods that contained B vits and always at the very top were eggs (egg yolks actually) followed by liver and yet my cholesterol/triglycerides/glucose is/are slightly above normal and I hate liver so what do I do to put some nutrition into my body until I can get my head screwed on straight and get some help for my alcoholism?

Thanks again!

I take B vitamins every day. For me, I think maybe my body doesn't process them as well as it should, so I take a supplement. I also take B6 daily. Of course, eating well is great, but it might not be enough.

I totally agree with GlassPrisoner. Instead of trying to repair the damage you're doing to your body by ingesting too much alcohol, why not put as much effort (and money) into recovery as you do the health supplements?

Uhhh..I got liver disease from drinking beer only! Doc gave me 6 months

to a year...I am here today only because of HP and recovery.

See a doctor, be honest..and ask for a liver (blood) test....

Supplements can't hurt...but may not be enough.

My best to you!
