Okay...
Okay...
I'm ready to come down here. I decided to stop smoking June 25th - it was Tim's birthday and he wanted me to quit smoking, so I stopped that day. It's been 7 days, and over the first couple of days I took a puff once or twice a day, but that was it. Last night, I smoked a cigarette but surprised myself that I really didn't enjoy it or get any satisfaction from it.
So, after last night, I know that I'm serious about not smoking anymore, and seeing the smile on my son's face when we get gas, and only gas...it's a better reward than any cigarette ever was. Looks like this forum gets another non-smoker. Wish me luck!

Welcome to the land of the smokeless, Trisha!!!
And congratulations on getting though Hell Week!!!
You can do this! How do I know? Well, if *I* could do it, anyone can! LOL!
I like your quote, iuchewie!!!
Today, I am One year, seven months, three days, 17 hours, 56 minutes and 57 seconds nicotine free. That's 23229 cigarettes not smoked, saving $6,387.76. Life saved: 11 weeks, 3 days, 15 hours, 45 minutes.
Trisha, be sure to check into our daily check in. It really helped me to be accountable. And we're here for you! Remember, a craving only lasts @3 minutes, so, whenever you get one, do something different!
Keep the quit and post before you puff!
Shalom!

Thanks Teach - I had no idea a craving only lasts about 3 minutes. I've worried about gaining weight after quitting, so when I do crave a cigarette, I drink a glass of water...I won't let myself do anything else, except the occasional piece of fruit...
Yay JWife!! we must be secret twins or something.

Great to hear mission!!
I forget to make my "no smoking" pledges-I have been smoke free since 3/12/06 and loving every minute!
I do get cravings once in a while-but I think about whyquit.com which changed my life.
Keep up the good work!!!!

Aaaaaaaaaaackkk...I bought a scale tonight...148 lbs. I've never weighed that much in my life...
Still, a couple of extra pounds is worth the health gains from quitting, and the smile on my son's face.

an excerpt from an article on killthecan called "minimizing weight gain"
http://www.killthecan.org/robs/weight.asp
"The average chewer would have to gain over 75 to 100 pounds to put the additional workload on the heart that is experienced by chewing, and this is not saying anything about the cancer risk associated with dipping."
i'm not saying don't worry about the weight, but get quit first... THEN deal with the weight issue...
chewie - 348 day free from dip
