I asked my AS in recovery today if it was hard to watch the sports without the alcohol. He is a HUGE Red Sox and New England Patriot fan---I figure it has to be a trigger-cause he always drank when he watched the game-even withhis friends-who drink.
He says it is "no problem"''doesn't bother him at all''
I just find this alcoholism a strange disease.
I would have thought it would be hard!
Nope---I am wrong again!!

You know, Sun, I've always thought my AH's triggers were extreme emotions. Such as extreme joy or extreme sadness. Even though joy is good he doesn't know how to deal with it.
Guess there just isn't any guessing, huh?

Chero--I don't know how your AH was raised but my EXAH had a horrible abusive childhood and he used to say things about how hard it was for him to enjoy himself. He loved the Holidays/cook outs etc...but it seemed they all reminded him of what he had missed out on.Sad.
I guess that's why they say our disease is
cunning baffling and powerful. Things can
go along smoothly for awhile or even longer
and then BAM....it wasnt something huge
to trigger someone or **** them off....but
rather something small....
Dont swet the big things they say but rather
the small ones.

That is so true. I always worried about the small things for him. A flat tire would ruin his day and he'd drink.
Good news at work...he'd drink.
He didn't grow up abused but he did grow up alone in a children's home. His parents abadoned him and his sisters. I can see how he missed a lot of basic skills...such as being able to interact with people.

HI Sunflower,
My name is Cheryl, I'm an alcoholic, and as you can probably tell from my avatar, I'm also a huge Sox fan. When I first stopped drinking it was difficult to sit down and watch a game especially because that's what my husband and I did every night, was watch the ballgame and drink. I couldn't sit through a whole game at first, but It has gotten easier.
