Red face "Do over"

Well I had to restart my efforts, so this is the beginning of the 'do over', as we used to say as kids. I gave in to temptation, stupidly.
However, today marks day 8 of being clean and sober. Also the first week of outpatient treatment complete. Feeling good except for the exceptional cravings which I have been staving off fairly well in my opinion.

Quick question, I have been eating like there is no tomorrow, just constantly hungry . . . . is this normal?

Welcome to the fold, frankfuter. I love your avatar!
congratulations on day 8 clean and sober, and a week of outpatient treatment behind you.
If food keeps you from drinking or using, carry on! Just try not to indulge in junk too often - eat healthy when you can, your body needs nutrients.
That being said, sugar helps many when cravings occur. Make sure you've got a plan for when those cravings come on - as you have seen, they do pass.
Please keep posting.

Welcome to SR...

When I quit drinking my appetite increased.

When I drank to much I didn't have an appetite...

Take advantage of your appetite and eat healthy.

Glad you are here. Keep posting.

oh yeah when i stop drinking i get so hungry. i think thats normal. it was mentioned eat healthy. thats the best advice you can get. dont do the fast food thing. that food doesnt really provide anything good for your body but sugar and carbs and tons of fat. if you eat dinner and relise your hungry again in a hour or so go for a walk. go lift weights or some thing to do with getting in shape. it will stop the hunger and you will feel better about yourself and after a while you will look better too. win win deal there. good luck! jason

Hi frank, well done on starting again! Yes my appepite goes right up too and eating healthy stuff is great advice, though hard to do sometimes. I can lose the weight later, sobriety comes first.

Cheers.

One of the blessings of sobriety is that I now enjoy food.

When I was drinking, eating was a chore. Something that had to be done. I'd chew & swallow.

But yeah, the appetite comes back with a vengance. It's normal. And like the others have stated, just eat. Don't worry about weight gain for now.

EAT EAT EAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whatever it takes....your body has been starved......

Last year before I got clean and sober I thought I

was "lookin good" skinny... but wore wigs because

most of my hair fell out!

Overweight a little now..but everyone says I glow....

And my hair is long...

Keep up the good work!

Love,

Sherry

LOL Sherry,

Yeah I was 'lookin' good skinny' too - size 0 clothing and I'm nearly 5'11" .. uh .. not lookin' so good.
I filled out too and look/feel so much healthier. Still working on growing out the mullet.

eating lots is very normal, but we addicts just feed ourselves with another addiction and food can become another addiction, eat normally, but when your heart feels sad, and you have a craving, call a helpline or post a thread, take your mind away and let your fellowship offer you support. that is what we are here for.!!!!!!!!

Thanks L and welcome,
not so much positive just trudging through trying to focus on what my life was before 'the drink' consumed me.

I was kidding about the eating healthy, best of intentions and all that, one of those things that just never seem to happen with 2 kids.
The 'normal' eating is ok, it's the sugar cravings that are taking their toll. Not much of a junk food guy so it's kind of odd.
Guess I just need to get my bicycle repaired and trade my sugar rush for a adrenal one.

Cheers all.

frankfuter,
Good for you for getting sober again. I agree with Rowan... if it keeps you sober, it's worth it. Remember the AA sayings "first things first" and "progress not perfection." You are sober... that's most important right now.
