Will this be day one?

Hi all,
I'm a 44 yr old UK male who has been drinking heavily for half my life.
The only days I don't drink are when I work nights and that isn't a problem.
But once at home I'm counting down the time until I can pour something-starting with a beer or three then a botle of wine.
It's like the groundshog day film-I wake up in the morning hating myself and promising to stop that day but by about 4 or 5 that promise is ignored and I relive the personal excuses all over again.
I'm working tonight and so thats an easy (cheating)start.I've never gone more than four days without a drink for over 20 years so even if I can't say I'll never drink again I'm going to try for 5 days from now.

Hi Musket,

Welcome!

That's the insanity of addiction. We keep doing the same things and expect a different result. I struggled to get past 3 days for a long time too, and then 3 weeks. But, you can do it.

Plan ahead. Make sure that you are occupied doing things you like doing, doing some totally different from what you would normally do. Alter your daily routines and patterns. It worked for me.

Hey musket...
I think I'm a lot like you...only a few sober days over the last 15 years or so...lots of drinking...lots of recriminations and promises...and then back to the start...

but thanks to the support and advice I've gotten here, I'm coming up fast on 3 weeks sober. It can be done !

welcome !
D
