Getting ready to quit

I just found this site adn hope to be able to use it frequently. I have set a quit date of February 2, 2007. That is this Friday. I am quite worried about it. I have three children (the reason for my quiting) and I fear that my agrivation and cravings will affect them. I have been smoking for about 7 years, most of the time it was about 7-9 cigs per day, but for a couple of months I as up to a pack (stressful times). I have already been to the doctor and he prescribed me wellbutrin (sorry for the spelling) and said it would assist with the depression, but does anyone have any suggestions for the cravings.
Thank you all for your support,

Welcome paidad.

I too, took welbutrin. Welbutrin really helps remove the craving for smoking (for most people). I continued on it for 4-6 weeks after I quit, I think?!?! I changed everything I did a week or two prior to quiting too. Helped me to look at whether I was smoking out of habit or truly out of "need". I found most of my smoking, was out of habit. Welbutrin does take about 4-6 weeks to be at full "working order". Sadly, many don't realize that and after 1-2 weeks, wonder why they don't feel "different". It is a gradual "shift".

I found a hobby to keep my hands and mind busy...plastic canvas...sewing...walking and I invested in a crap load of IceBreaker Sours; which are sugar and calorie free...however, when you eat them "excessively" you may lose some of your tooth enamel, temporairly....I did: after consuming multiple cans/day the first 1-2 months!!! All fine now, 10 months smoke-free!

If you just started the welbutrin...I wouldn't put too much pressure on yourself to quit this Friday...absolutely, go for it (I'm not trying to discourage you)...but if you find you are not ready quite yet...that's ok. Your kids, most likely, will be more than happy to help "keep you busy and smoke free". I know mine were!!! My eldest was so happy I quit...she actually cried with relief...she's been so worried about me and my health, thanks elementary school system with your "drug awareness programs"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She was a huge reason why I decided to quit...but it wasn't until I could really "see" how cigarettes had controlled my life that I was able to stop. I'd tried quiting a zillion times prior to this last one. Just keep quiting. Each one leads to a new lesson.

After making it through 48 hours...I made my mind up this time that I was really going to do this...just for 24 hours at a time. I'm also in AA and have applied the 12 steps to my stop smoking program.

Check in often and let us know how you are doing.

Blessings,
Jen

Help

Hi all,

I've read several posts and actually think I MIGHT be able to do this. I started with the patch today. I think my boyfriend is ready to move out...lol. I was able to quit with both pregnancies, no problem. For some reason, I can't quit for my own health. I'm diabetic (I wear an insulin pump), I have diabetic neuropathy and smoking greatly has an effect on the progression of this. Until about 4 weeks ago I had to walk with a cane, and I'm only 34. I also have high blood pressure. I'm on medical leave from work and have made many changes, but the smoking has been the hardest thing to quit. I'm using the patches, but my doctor told me about a new drug called Chantix. I read about it, but one of the most prevalent side effects is nausea. I can't STAND to be nauseous. Has anyone tried this, and if so, did it work? I just don't know if I can do this!

Also, my boyfriend smokes, but I made him start smoking outside!

Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome NicotineFreak...

I had an easy time quiting for my first pregnancy and a very hard time quiting for my second (I'm ashamed to say). I believe most of it is the mindset. I have since changed from a pessimist to an optimist...I believe in a HP and utilize that relationship with prayer and turning my will over to Him.

I know 2 people who have tried Chantrix....neither had nausea; however, I've read on here that those who have tried it, did have nausea. All in the body and how it reacts.

Good luck on your quit and post before you puff.
Jen

doing good so far, a couple of slips but overall have been doing very good. i have changed my routines so that my normal smoking time is occupied with other things. Can't say I don't crave them, or that I don't want one, I really do, but just trying to keep busy and not think about it.
