What have you done for YOU lately?

There is a great thread on the "Friends and Family of Substance Abusers" board which asks, "What have you done for YOU in the last week?"

So let's hear it!

In the last week I:

1) Got a haircut
2) Manicure and pedicure
3) Wasn't too proud to take a little gift of money from my mom. I'm unemployed, she wants to help me, and I shouldn't feel guilty or bad about it. I accepted her caring gift with gratitute.

Finished a major paint job in my master bathroom, hung curtains in another bedroom, moved furniture around. It may sound like work, but it gave me a deep sense of satisfaction. Started reading the Bible again to get back in touch with my own spiritual side. Took myself out to lunch on Saturday and Sunday while watching wildcard football playoff games on two super-sized projector screens.

Whew. I'm beat! Happy, but beat!

1) bought my starter kit with Mary Kay to run my own business and be around women again

2) went to another al-anon meeting and found one where I totally fit

3) opened up another checking account just in case

4)cleaned the upstairs and it feels good since that's my part of the house now

P.S. I like this thread!!

That is a biggie! Good Job!

I am trying to think....

I went and put in an application at the Plumbers & Pipefitters Union. (I was the only female there.)

My Navy son is home on leave for two weeks after being deployed for over a year. I am getting some quality time with him which has been awesome.

1. I got a Spa Pedicure and a facial
2. After standing up for myself I quit my jobs two days earlier than I said I would to give myself time to rest, despite who didn't like it. They weren't nice to me, so I'm not coming here anymore after today. Turned down their offer to take me out to lunch. Some might disagree, but to me, this is a good thing.
3. I had the dignity to let go of a friendship that I feel isn't working anymore. If it's meant to be, I'll hear from her. If not, it's for the best.
4. I took a defensive driving class. Yeah, mainly for the discount, but also to scare myself enough to stop driving so fast and aggressively. Another stupid thing I do that I'm working on.
5. Set aside time each day for meditation because my therapist said I have no real sense of self that enables to me to make decisions without second-guessing myself or running to everyone and their mother for advice. This time is mine, where I try to find that voice.

Always my art. I play some kind of computer game usually every night before bed. And I listen to Bellaruth Naparstek tapes when I go to bed.

You asked what I've done for myself this last week? Funny, this has been a terrible week!!!
And yet - unlike my old self - I have chosen to still pamper myself as I continue to learn to worry less.

I went and got my hair cut and my eyebrows waxed this week!

I have made time for friends even though it may not always be much time!

I've allowed myself to be angry at something that my son did and I told him how I felt (the old me would have worried that he'd disown me, etc as he doesn't live with me and I don't see him much so I'd not have said how I really feel before)

I have made plans for this weekend with a coworker whose birthday is this weekend.

I have had no contact with X AH (and only had contact today due to an issue with one of our kids).
And I have not defended myself, tried to explain myself, or convince Xah of anything - though he's tried to put me in situations where I would have responded in the defensive way before.

I also bought a few movies on DVD. They are older movies so I got them each for a low price so that the kids and I can start having movie night at least once a week!
