NYE sober rave

here in chicago one of the meeting spots is having a sober rave on NYE. not sure what to make of it. its not going to be an actual rave (at 26 im too old to do that and it was something i stopped doing when i was 18) but i was worried sick about being alone on NYE. ive been absolutely dying to hear House music live but scared of going to hear it at the club. this is my chance to go hear somebody spin House in a sober environment. dont really care who is there....i got a buddy to go with. thats a plan for me. im set for NYE now. so im not fearing the holidays that much. really the only day im worried about now is Xmas. 1 down, 1 to go. bring on the holdiays!

Sounds good, believe it or not I used to know a few Straightedge(sober) ravers back in the day. This one guy used to go around with an X shaved into his head and pass out flyers about the effects of drugs. Seemed odd to me back then, but I'm glad there were folks out there at least who weren't totally fried by the XTC. You should go check it out

i've been all stressed out about NYE this year...since it will be my first one without drugs! i'm going back and forth in my mind about what i'm going to do, because i always have these f'd up expectations of that night! there is a big sober party/dance in my area too, but i'm not really feelin it.

i just went on a tangent.... anyway, have an awesome time chicago!

NYE spent sober with other sober people is so much fun! I love to dance and thought I'd have to give that all up when I stopped drinking. NOT!!!!

Here are some advantages to sober dancing:

1) Doesn't matter how well you dance because most people are more focused on how they look dancing sober.

2) Don't have to wait til later in the evening to work up enough liquid courage to ask someone to dance. Just get out there and do it.

3) When the lights go up the people will look just as good (or not) as they did at the beginning of the evening. No beer goggles and no coyote ugly moments (where you're willing to chew your own arm off rather than to risk waking that horrendous person you just woke up next to LOL!)

4) Everybody remembers the great time and fellowship they had the next day, next week, next month, next year because their bodies were free of poison.

Enjoy your NYE rave!

My 1st sober Christmas...
I volunteered to help cook and serve dinner to the homeless
then found an all day AA marathon to attend.

NYE is always fun in AA...this year will be a
party with snacks & games & nusic
followed by a candle light neeting...topic:Gratitude

"We are not a glum lot" is certainly true.

Start the new year with the winners!!

I'm all for NYE parties thrown by the local groups...I started going to them my very first sober NYE. We always had Alco-thons, too (24 hour meetings).

...rather than to risk waking that horrendous person you just woke up next to LOL!)
Kellye...that reminded me of an old country-western song, "The Girls All Look Prettier At Closing Time"...unfortunately, the boys did, too. Oh, my!

Wow! This falls into the idea

There are no coincedinces in recovery!

This was todays reading from AA Thought Of The Day..

Merriment

But we aren't a glum lot.
If newcomers could see no joy or fun
in our existence, they wouldn't want it.
We absolutely insist on enjoying life. . .
We think cheerfulness and laughter
make for usefulness.
Outsiders are sometimes shocked
when we burst into merriment over a seemingly
tragic experience out of the past.
But why shouldn't we laugh?
We have recovered, and have been given the power
to help others. . .
We are sure God wants us to be happy, joyous, and free.
