4th Step
So, after several months of putting off my 4th step, I participated in a 4th step workshop yesterday along with a 5th step dry run. I wish I could say that I feel relief after writing all the crap down...stuff that I have been hiding/suppressing for all these years. So far, it's just stirred up really bad memories - actions I had long since pushed to the back of my mind...now they are all front and center vying for attention...causing a little anxiety and uneasiness. Is this common?
yes. Thats why its suggested to follow the 4th step up with a 5th step meeting with a trusted sponsor or spiritual counselor. Then the 6th....when you are (entirely) ready.
After a while, there will be more positive thoughts and awarenesses.
Try not to dwell on the negative.

I'm on the 4th step also. Not only are the memories that created the resentment unpleasant, but the memories of my part in these situations really create some feelings of shame and guilt.
I'm looking forward to completing this step so I can "take out the trash"

as all i can do is post experience strength and hope here i have done a fourth step and a 5th step and the way my Sponsor had me do it was the do the inventory as listed in step 4 but also include a positive inventory at the end of the 4th as being the alcoholic that i am i tend to dwell on the negatives, etc easier. what i found in following her suggestion is that i didn't dwell on all the shame and guilt, etc.
I found it to be a great relief finishing my 4th and 5th steps. I find it doesn't have to be such a chore. thanks
