Patience
Patience
Spent from 8am until 9pm with my recovering alcoholic daughter on Saturday at her rehab facility. Here's a day:
Recieved 60 day coin (glad)
Issue with roommate (hurt and mad)
First visit since rehab from grandparents (ashamed)
News that she's getting a new admitted roommate (afraid and mad)
Family education session on relapse topic (afraid)
Counseling session with us, her parents and her counselor (sad and afraid and glad)
Haircut appt (afraid until she decides she REALLY LIKES IT, then glad)
Dinner out with us to celebrate 60 days (glad)
Recovery is very challenging.

60 days of soberity for an alcoholic is a major accomplishment. As hard as this is I think it is great that she has made it this far. I wish my son would want to get sober. You should be very proud of her!!!
Hello Friend of Bill,
I spend most of my time feeling glad and afraid and ashamed (more like guilty.) I'm not angry or hurt. I am grateful for recovery - hers and mine. We have a long way to go.
On days with her, I focus a lot on where SHE is at in recovery. I learn a lot, and it is helping me know what I can do to support her. BUT she is starting to be able to help ME now too, in my recovery. She encourages me, and gives me time. We're just less demanding of each other now.
As a family, we are making some progress. It just takes a lot of patience.
Thanks for listening!

Patience...yep, it does take alot of that in early recovery....during.....and even 6 yr's and 6 mons down the road...lol..it takes patience.
It is all worth it when the end result is a happier, closer, and healthier relationship as a family.
My daughter, 6 yr.s 6mons....and we still have some ways to go also. but she is young and we are all trying.
