Why.........
I have a post somewhere around here with much the same question. The responses I got mentioned a lot of good ideas.... not the least of which is that it's easier to let go things that are pretty black and white where we can clearly see what is our part and what's beyond our control.
ALSO it is easier to let go of those things that dont have a big emotional involvement.
Just what I am learning so far.

Hi, Im Sharon and im an Alcoholic.
By the Grace of my HP and you people
here in SR I havent had a drink of alcohol
since 8-11-90. For that im truely grateful.
It is truth that if we turn our lives
over to God or ur HP all our problems
will be lifted from us. But it is easier
to speak this truth, than to live it.
If we only come to realize that of
ourselves we are nothing, can
accomplish nothing, then what
choice do we have?
Through our own wills we misuse God's
or ur HP's gifts to us, causing only pain
and destruction in the end. If we turn
our will's over to the Father, He will
guide us with His will. We must pray,
meditate, listen and believe.
HAVE YOU TURNED IT OVER?
HP, let me live this day to the fullest
and be as One with You.

Even though I have faith in a HP, I am also pretty darn analytical. When a problem or situation hit, and I tried to turn it over immediately, I'd often get frustrated with my lack of success. It took me several years of recovery to realize, that for me, I had to process it mentally, before I could be ready to let it go. I had to get a grip on what part of the situation was mine to deal with, take action on that, if possible or appropriate, and then see what was left that needed to be let go. Maybe I'm a little slow, but for me that takes a little bit of time.
I had one sponsor that wanted me to let go of everything "right now". I just can't do that all of the time.
Then there are just days that, for whatever reason, I just s*ck at letting go. Then I do the Scarlett O'Hara thing and tell myself "I'll just worry about that tomorrow".
