Celebrating one month today!

Hopefully, this is the last time and any other celebrations are just mileposts further down the road.

I enjoy being Sober Steve rather than Drunk Steve.

Things I miss about drinking:
The first one or two or even three drinks of the evening.
Having something to look forward to.

Things I don't miss about drinking:

Not having the fourth through dozen drinks or so of the evening and stumbling off to bed hours after I should have.
Probably too "tired" to wash my face. Maybe not too "tired" to brush my teeth. Maybe.
Waking up in a pool of sweat with my heart pounding.
Laying awake for a couple/few hours thinking depressing thoughts.
Feeling like crap when I get up and for most of the day.
Wash, rinse, repeat.

Things I like about being sober:

Being much more careful about my personal hygiene.
When I wake up in the night I'm not soaking in sweat with my heart pounding, I just need to pee. Hey! I'm an old guy. Upon returning to bed, I usually go back to sleep. If I don't right away, I'm not thinking depressing things, I'm watching funny videos on my iPad.
SLEEP! I've neglected my sleep for years and years. If you're tired at 8:00PM, it's amazing what a few shots of 86 proof rocket fuel will do for ya! You're good to go for hours more of aimless net surfing, etc. Now, I go to bed early and usually get up early and get really good, normal sleep. Thankfully, no insomnia that plagues many of us or so it seems. Haven't gotten wealthy or wise yet, though.
Having a clear head throughout the day.
Actually remembering things that happened throughout the day.

Things I'm looking forward to:

Gonna start off slow but want to start jogging and build up to 5k distance.
Looking forward to my physical and dental exams in August where hopefully they'll say: "Hey! Your blood pressure is down!" and "Hey! You're gums are so much healthier!".
Gonna lose weight. Need to drop about 50 lbs. Without trying and in spite of eating anything I've wanted I've lost 3 lbs or so in the last month.

Anyway, I know it's just a month but it seems longer. Also, I know I've been here a couple times before and blew it but I'm not this time. I've vowed if I'm tempted that I would post on here first. OK? Also, I have a list of reasons I want to be sober on my phone I can easily access that I've vowed to myself to read if I get tempted.

Thanks for being here, everyone. I don't post much but I get a lot of inspiration from your collective wisdom and stories. Peace to all of us. Sober Steve

Congrats on your month! That's huge for people like us, eh?

My health markers are all so much better. From blood pressure to weight, sleep, anxiety, liver numbers, all of it.

The gums thing took a little while longer than three months for me, but now I get glowing reviews from my hygienist.

Great job on one month, sober Steve! If you’re like me, you will find yourself tested harshly in your first year. Stay strong! It gets easier and easier after!

The BP and weight were big for me. After a few months I started really tightening up my diet (sugar, dairy and processed wheat).

My BP was 122/78 today and I’m down to 195lbs (was 235 at my heaviest). Also getting runs in 5-6 days a week.

All good stuff! Good luck with the 5k ramp up!
