You know, I really used to hate it when people said things to me like I am about to say. But, the simple solution is to just stop doing it for any reason. My response either verbally or in my head was always..........but you just don't understand, or I can't or my deal is different. The most very basic bottom line for me is that:
It does not in any way shape for form cause anything but misery for me, almost immediately.
I can't ever change that. That is the way I am with alcohol.
So, I find other things to do instead.
I don't have to concentrate on quitting, life without it, etc. I don't have to concentrate on it at all. Just the opposite. It is not for me, so I concentrate on everything else in life instead.

It's completely normal to feel sad after realizing the consequences of your actions though... it's kind of like how the body feels physical pain to let you know to avoid a certain action.
Please don't assume this is how the rest of your life has to be. You have a conscience and regret what you did, and change and forgiveness is truly possible.
You can and will get better from this, just stay positive and work for it.
