At home having a nervous breakdown
This is my second attempt to live sober. My first attempt was certainly set-up to fail because I didn't truly believe that I had a problem. I have a career that I absolutely love, I have a wonderful husband, a nice house...I was wearing rose colored glasses. My first attempt ended up being one month of sobriety. After that, little by little, I saw the different ways in which alcohol ruled my life, and didn't realize it until this time around that EVERYONE knew I was an alcoholic but me. I've come to terms with my addiction, realizing it's seriousness, and how much damage I've done in multiple areas of my life now that I'm not in denial. I'm going on two weeks sober, and I'm never looking back!

Good for you.
Give yourself a massive pat on the back sweetheart.
I am over 3 years now with no drink.
I am a prolific list maker.......here is what worked for me.
1. Visit here every single day.
2. Read posts here, learn all you can. Read before you entertain any thoughts of drinking, especially if it is under the guise of 'one won't hurt'.
3. Read up on addictive voice recognition and see if you can benefit from it.
4. Listen to DEE74. He is very wise! Like a wise old owl.
5. Do it one day at a time.
6. Praise yourself for getting to the end of the day with no alcohol.
7. Deal with future events, like Christmas, holidays, bbq's, weddings etc etc nearer the time. When you get nearer to them happening, you will be stronger in your resolve not to drink, and probably won't want to when the date arrives. If people ask 'won't you be drinking at my party..?', just say 'not sure, it's ages away, decide nearer the time'.
8. A bad day is just one day. The next day things will make more sense. If it is still horrific, say you can drink tomorrow if you want to but just not today. Every time that happened to me, nothing was bad enough that warranted a drink the next day.
Lovely having you here xx

BbC I know what you mean. I too had to see for myself that damage and how my using was affecting my life. Unfortunately it took me coming in and out of the rooms like a revolving door a few months before it sunk in my brain. Then I was lucky to have like 13 years clean before I started using again. I now have a little over 70 days clean. It's been a struggle but it is worth it!
