Opioid related GI issues 1 year into recovery?

My DOC was alcohol for 15 years and heavy opiate use for 4 or 5 years. I've been sober for well over a year now and everything is great except for some GI issues.

When I first sobered up it took a few months to have a solid BM. My GI tract was constantly upset. Here I am over a year out and still rarely have solid BMs. I don't have any pain, but it's darn embarrassing to have to run to the bathroom like a 3 year old that can't hold their **** together, literally. Anyone else experience this?

My doc has told me it's not related to the drug abuse, but he is rather ignorant to addiction. What are your experiences with this?

I was an alcoholic but my GI issues cleared up after a couple of months - and a new fridge.

There is a wide range of normal with these things but this sounds like something I'd get a second opinion on.

All the GI issues that I had went away completely after a couple months. Opiates were my DOC, and I used for over a decade.

Have you tried changing your diet?
