Inspirational songs?

Here's mine at the moment, have lots though.

Manowar - Carry On: YouTube - Manowar - Carry On

The north star always guides me
When winter skies are gray
And I wait for sun when all are one
I shall not betray
Calling at me
Im waiting when all are led astray

Carry on my sons forever
Carry on when I am gone
Carry on when the day is long
Forever carry on
For as long as were together
Then forever carry on

Darkness all around us
We dont close our eyes
No ones gonna ground us
We were burn to fly
Cominat us no stopping
Born to amplify

Carry on my sons forever
Carry on when I am gone
Carry on when the day is long
Forever carry on
For as long as were together
Then forever carry on

Yea,be my brother
Fight to stay alive
All the world cant change us
With all their burned-out jive
Come get us now were waiting
We wont run and hide

Carry on my sons forever
Carry on when I am gone
Carry on when the day is long
Forever carry on
For as long as were together
Then forever carry on

Now were all together
Lets sing a fighting song
One hundred thousand riders
We cant all be wrong
Cominat us no stopping
Always carry on

Carry on my sons forever
Carry on when I am gone
Carry on when the day is long
Forever carry on
For as long as were together
Then forever carry on

Slayer rules, Show No Mercy destroys my face every time I turn it on. In keeping with Manowar...

Manowar - The Power

I've got the power to fly into the wind
The power to be free to die and live again
This power's like fire, fire loves to burn
Make the world a grave of ashes in an urn
The power in the darkness to see without my sight
Walk among the living free of wrong and right
The power of the magic the power of the spell
Not to serve in Heaven but one day to rule in Hell

Power the power the power

This power's greater than love and of hate
This is the power of will and of fate
The power to kill the power to feel
The power of blood the triumph of steel
Greater that the power of a priest or a sinner
The power to defy to fight and be the winner
The power of the demons spirits I command
Always by my side to serve the master's plan

Power the power the power

None can fight the power none can fight the wind
Secrets of all life and death are carried there within
Call out to the power of the darkness and light
Have dominion of the earth be lord of all the night
Kill all those who stand against you look into their eyes
Drink their blood and laugh as they pay for all their lies
**** upon their graves then cast a final spell
Fly into the night and one day meet in Hell

Good topic, and a topic that I've been devoting some serious time to.

I'm finding that I can relate the lyrics of MANY songs (almost all songs) to some aspect of my recovery.

So now I listen to music not only for pure enjoyment, and also to help me envision different recovery aspects.

(Example: the song 'Hotel California' now relates completely to rehab, in my mid the song could have been written about a rehab experience. The song 'Old Man' reminds me that I can learn something from everyone, especially the elderly, and that I had better make the most of my life NOW, before I become an old man. I could go on and on.)

Dude, I watched the Eagles - Farewell Tour I dvd over and over when I was detoxing. So many of the Eagles songs take on a totally new meaning when you're all dopesick and hurting, its not even funny. Wasted Time, Desperado, LITFL, and HC, as you said, in particular. Sh*t brought me to tears time and time again that first couple weeks.

Another vid watched a TON was U2 Go Home - Live at Slane Castle. Unbelievable performance, crowd of 250,000 crazed home-town fans, the very end of a 2+ year sold-out, record-breaking world tour ... and Bono's dad had passed away only days before. And since I've basically grown up with u2 and seen them seven times, stretching back to Unforgettable Fire days, watching it brings up a whole mess of feelings and memories. Great stuff, if you've never seen it, you should ... it's just a frickin amazing show. And I mean, there's a TON of u2 songs that seem to relate to addiction and recovery, esp. when you're in 'that state' ...

U2's music is fantastic, bval.

I perform 'With or Without You' and the words take on special meaning.

U2 Lyrics - One

Is it getting better
Or do you feel the same
Will it make it easier on you now
You got someone to blame
You say...

One love
One life
When it's one need
In the night
One love
We get to share it
Leaves you baby if you
Don't care for it

Did I disappoint you
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth
You act like you never had love
And you want me to go without
Well it's...

Too late
Tonight
To drag the past out into the light
We're one, but we're not the same
We get to
Carry each other
Carry each other
One...
Have you come here for forgiveness
Have you come to raise the dead
Have you come here to play Jesus
To the lepers in your head

Did I ask too much
More than a lot
You gave me nothing
Now it's all I got
We're one
But we're not the same
Well we
Hurt each other
Then we do it again
You say
Love is a temple
Love a higher law
Love is a temple
Love the higher law
You ask me to enter
But then you make me crawl
And I can't be holding on
To what you got
When all you got is hurt
One love
One blood
One life
You got to do what you should
One life
With each other
Sisters
Brothers
One life
But we're not the same
We get to
Carry each other
Carry each other

One...life

One

Just saw these guys in concert last night... total chaos.

Amon Amarth - Twilight of the Thunder God - YouTube - Amon Amarth "Twilight Of The Thunder God"

There is Fenris grim
His jaws are open wide
The serpent rises from the waves
Jormungandr twists and turns, mighty in his wrath
The eyes are full of primal hate

Thor, Odin's son, protector of mankind, ride to meet your fate, your destiny awaits
Thor, Hlódyn's son, protector of mankind, ride to meet your fate, Ragnarök awaits

Vingthor rise to face the snake with hammer high
at the edge of the world
as lightning fills the air
as Mjöllnir does it's work
the twinfold serpent roars in pain

Thor, Odin's son, protector of mankind, ride to meet your fate, your destiny awaits
Thor, Hlódyn's son, protector of mankind, ride to meet your fate, Ragnarök awaits

Mighty Thor, grabs the snake
firmly by its tongue
lifts his hammer high to strike
soon his work is done

Vingthor slays the guardian snake
leading to the death
twilight of the thundergod
Ragnarök awaits
twilight of the thunder god

I've been following u2 a long time, as I say, and I really don't know that there ever WAS a 'pre-messianic' Bono.

All I can say is if I had the power to have 250,000 people eating out of the palm of my hand the way that Bono does in this video, I would probably be inclined to get a bit messianic myself. Bono is pretty much a god to me, so I never had a problem with this aspect of his performances, and I'd go so far as to say that without Bono's personality and charisma, u2 would have never gotten to where they are.

We used to do that one in my cover band back in the early 90's. Had the e-bow and everything for the intro ... I'll tell you what though, singing the beginning part is pretty easy, but the latter half of that song ... faggetuhboutit. I used to always wanna play all the songs we did in the right key, and try to nail the vocals as close as possible, but that one, I gave up on after a few performances. Definitely some of Bono's most incredible vocals. We did, however, keep "Bad" (which I could just barely do) and "Running to Stand Still" (which isn't hard to pull off) in the setlist for awhile. We used to do Bad as a medley, leading into it with "Another Brick in the Wall (Part I)", since the guitar delay on both songs is nearly identical, you could go from one to the other real smooth, and people loved it.

I swear, every time I watch almost any part of this vid now, my eyes start watering up, just like back when I was in w/d's watching it. This is u2 at the height of their powers ... I'm telling ya, it doesn't get any better than this ... especially the second one ...

I never really got into them. I remember them being somewhere in the 80's and then the bono guy started saving the world and stuff. I remember somebody mentioning the bono guy's messiah deal. I kind of remember glimpses of him in Africa and hanging around leaders of countries and stuff. He's quite the snazzy dresser.

Sentenced - Broken

I have come a long way where I started from
but I'm still not even close to where I'm going
(and now) I can no longer see the shine
that has been lighting up my way
I cannot feel its glowing

The fire in my heart is dying
and the zeal I had is gone

This path that I've chosen's a rocky one
Long, hard and frozen it has become
Each turn that I've taken on the way
has only led me back to Hell
I am dying down growing weaker now
It could seem that I'm doing fine
but I'm broken to little pieces deep inside

Why did I ever choose to go this way
The question I keep asking myself all the time
I guess it was my instinct for self-destruction
that pointed me down this way

The fire in my eyes is dying
and the dream I had is gone

This path that I've chosen's a rocky one
Long, hard and frozen it has become
Each turn that I've taken on the way
has only led me back to Hell
I am dying down growing weaker now
It could seem that I'm doing fine
but I'm broken to little pieces deep inside
