Haiku Part 5
ocean streams of light
envelope fill flow in me
namu amida!

Amida Buddha is the Buddha of limitless light (amida). namu means “I take/find refuge in”. I often use, as a mantra, my version of the nembutsu of Japanese Shin Buddhism: namu amida buddha. I woke up this morning—after having finally fallen asleep after a restless night—with that mantra running through my mind. (I tend to view Amida in symbolic, not in actual, terms—as a symbol of “Buddha Nature”, Original Mind”, etc.—no matter.)

I wish my head would crack
Maybe the nightmares will get out
My soul's lost in there
Or if it did crack
Maybe the nightmares will get in
My soul will get smeared
But everywhere I go I'm still
stuck here in this same damned place
Cracked my head today
Maybe the nightmares will get out
My soul's lost in there
Or if it did crack
Maybe the nightmares will get in
My soul will get smeared
But everywhere I go I'm still
stuck here in this same damned place
Cracked my head today
Special pal, Zero
I hope I'm reading this wrong
But I don't think so
I'm afraid for you
Your haiku are dark and grim
My heart aches for you
You beg for relief
And yes, this is all there is
I'm sorry to say
But start where you are
I never did pleasant well
It's better than dark
Do not let dark stay
Ah, yes, well. Look whose talking
The queen of darkness
Know I care for you
I am not a prayer-er be
Here's an exception
