Amitriptyline
Yes, I have them for fibromyalgia to help with pain at night and sleep. They are a mild anti depressant. I don't always use them, I've never liked taking pills much. They sometimes give me a bit of a gooey mouth. xxxx

ive been on it.. according to my dr its a right old and proven "work horse" that can be used for loads of off label conditions. I was on it for depression/sleep problems. I had no side effects on it as such other than it stopped working for me @_@ but that seems to be the case with most things for me.
My husband takes it for RLS, but his condition was also caused by opiate abuse.. so not sure how effective it was in reality. He had no side effects either.

I take it occasionally at night for, sot of, a muscle relaxer. It makes me feel pretty groggy in the morning. I'm better off if I take it two or three hours before I go to bed.
Like others have said, it's an antidepressant that is generally used for other issues. Not often prescribed for depression anymore.

Took it for a while.
Awful, awful dry mouth. As in completely dry.
Made me groggy 24/7. The first time I took it, though, it was nice. However, I could barely make it from the living room to bed I was so dizzy. And not in a bad way, I'll add.
The worst thing, for the month or so I took it, I put on 30 pounds. As someone who would ideally weigh 160-165 pounds, 30 is a lot, and it helped put me on a path to becoming a fatso, tipping the scales at 230. I've since slimmed back to 165, but it has taken a long time, and I'll always have the stretch marks.
Naturally, I voluntarily stopped once I realized the cause. I had already had a drinking problem, and it didn't help getting fat. Those early twenties were hazy...
It would seem my case was an extreme one, but it's something to be aware of.

I take it for pain, to start with I did have problems with muscle twitches where I felt like my arms or legs were trapped, that wore of and i noticed dry mouth , slept better than I have in nearly 40 years. Stopped taking recently and had no problems if your worried about that side of things.
