Dysthymia a.k.a. Chronic Discontent

For years I never could understand why my wife never got excited about things that the average person would. No matter what, life seemed to be all about disappointment. Yes, she had a bad childhood...a childhood that no child should ever experience.

If you know of anyone that might fit this limited description, check out a book called "The Half-Empty Heart" by Alan Downs, Ph.D.

It wasn't until I purchased this book for my wife and asked her to read it. Before she got to page 5, she stated that the book must have been written about her. That's Step 1, getting her to understand that she really does suffer from this illness.

I'll keep posting. Thanks!

Bookie

I'm sorry your wife has suffered so much.
It must be very difficult for you both.

It's good she's interested in reading about it. Perhaps that will prompt her to seek help.

Let us know how it's going. We care...

Bookie, I just found this information from another poster in anxiety disorders. Anyway, read this article. You might find some relief there:

Hope it helps!

Shalom!
