Lamictal and Seroquel for recoving addict....Q's inside
I don't know if this is the correct forum, but maybe you guys can help. I am a recovering heroin addict. Nothing unusual about my recovery, in fact text book results. Depression, appetite swings mood swings, etc. I finally went to the phychiatrist and he prescribed me Lamictal for daily depression and Seroquel if I can't sleep. I also went to a different doc a few months ago when I was going through the withdrawels and he gave me Suboxone. I told the new doc that I sometimes, when I am craving, take the subox. He didn't really say that it was a problem to mix, but he also said he doesn't now much about Suboxone. Which kind of scares me. I searched the internet and can't find anything bad with mixing them. Anyone on here take both with any problems? Also if I slip and take some H, what are the effects with the medications? I know I shouldn't mix ANYTHING unless told to by a doctor, but this forum has been so much better for advise than any and all doctors I have spoken to.
Thanks in advance for the support and all your help, Bless you ALL!

The only drug I'm familiar with is lamictil. It is used in Bipolar disorder to manage mood swings. I don't take it for depression. The one thing I can say about it, is it has less side effects than most meds I've taken

I have no first-hand experience with those pharms, but I don't think they would interact. Suboxone is contraindicated for use with opiates (e.g. H), because it itself is a opioid drug and could lead to respiratory failure. Don't take any alcohol or benzos either.
Bottom line, stay clean. Tell yourself you will do it, and keep going to meetings or posting online.

I'm on Lamictal and Lithium for bipolar. I havn't had any expirience with them helping the addictions. Just that the combination of those 2 have been the only thing that has actually controlled my mood swings. Lamictal dosn't react with much, except for giving you some crazy skin allergies. But the seroquel don't mix that with anything, I used to take it as an anti anxiety medication. I havn't had the pukes that bad in my entire life, I was dry heaving for a few hours afterwards to.
Hi, Matt;
This forum is for sharing our ESH, (experience, strength and hope.)
In fact, it's against the forum rules to dispense medical information. It's dangerous and fool hearty. None of us have a medical liscense, and even if we did, no decent doctor would diagnose and treat a patient without seeing them first. It's not that we don't care; quite the contrary. It's because we DO care! We're not qualified and don't want to see you hurt.
If you're unhappy with your present doctor, please do see another. Your life may depend upon it.
Shalom!

For me the Lamictal and the Seroquel work the best for me along with 150 mg. of effexor. It has helped me with my addictions as well. I send positive vibes your way for ur soberity.
They'll know the contraindications (or they can look it up in their system). When you get into polypharmacological interventions, it is VERY important that the prescriber and pt. are aware of the possible side effects. Those three medications are all pretty potent, so I'd advise letting a professional (your local pharmacist that dispensed it?) know what you are on...and they can let you know.

I have some pharmacy experience and researched this because my friend is on it and I'm surprised that this doctor appears to have such little knowledge of its use. From what i read each doctor has to be registered to write for this, is limited to 30 patients per practice, and usually is a pain or addiction specialist. Also, if you are not getting the required effect and have to supplement, then he's not getting you up to the proper dose to maintain your level of comfort. Once that is established, then they start the taper. Check out the www.suboxone.com site. , then talk to yor doctor about your concerns. i hope i was of some help.
