This is my first attempt

Hi. I'm Brittany. I'm an alcoholic. I wake up everyday knowing I need to stop my 1-2 pints of vodka a day, but by the end of the day I still end up at the liquor store. I want to stop.

Welcome to SR. Just about everyone here will suggest that you get medical attention as soon as possible. Best thing you can do for yourself is to follow that advice.

Medical attention? I'm not sure if that's necessary. I am looking for support to become sober with the knowledge of what it is I'm doing to my body. I also want to be a better me.

Welcome Bri! Not to scare you but even at one pint daily the body sees alcohol as a necessary food group (physical dependence) if you did it for a period of say, 2 months or more, and will rebel if stopped (withdrawals). Same reason you find yourself at the checkout every evening. If you have easy access to a dr. then go. Tell how much and how often you drink. They can give something to ease the transition physically (tis why there are detoxes and treatment centers). This is a huge change to your system. Sweats, shakes, angst, insomnia and yes, a small percentage die from abrupt cessation of alcohol. Get the help. Use everything you got--your life is worth it.

I totally agree with others here. Please see your Dr to help you with detoxing. The first 72 hrs can be dicey/dangerous.

I was drinking 25-30 ozs of wine daily for 7 yrs and I recently medically detoxed in a hospital. I actually had withdrawal symptoms even with the medication. That was a wake up call for me

Doesn't obamacare require that everyone have insurance? If you're unemployed, how about medicaid or a state funded medical coverage? Also, check out free clinics in your area. If you're a college student, you may still be covered under your parent's insurance.

Welcome, Brit, to SR.

You can always go to the ER, Brit. They cannot turn you away.

Well here it is. My husband is part of the Union and so we are supposed to be insured through them. But... He hasn't worked enough hours yet to get the benefits. So it's been a waiting game. I'm frustrated and at a wall. I know I can get treatment once the benefits are active. I just hope it's soon. I feel my body falling apart.
Thank you everyone for the support. No one in my family is an alcoholic. So they don't quite understand the severity of my addiction.

I'm just like you, Brittany.

I sure hope that you can get liberated from the prison in which alcohol apparently has you trapped.

I suggest getting some detox and recovery advice - there are folks here who have a lot better handle on those types of matters.

Please seek help and hold onto it.

And keep us posted.

I am going to look into treatment. My husband is supporting me and thinks that an in patient treatment facility would be good for me. Just gotta get those benefits.

Thank you to everyone for the support and advice. This forum has been very helpful and the support from people like me, has helped me not feel completely alone on this bumpy road.
