Home Remedies for Alcohol Detox?

Hi folks! Day 5 here and got passed the sweats, still shaky and anxiety, well you know the rest. Any help or tips on calming the nervous system would be of great help.

Thanks,

Ron

The standard advice around here is to see a Dr. when you detox. Since you've made it to day 5 and your detox symptoms are gone or decreasing, maybe you are ok without seeing a Dr. (but please don't take that as medical advice). What always calmed my anxiety is simple, - time. If you get enough sober days under your belt, your anxiety may subside. Exercise, eating well, and drinking lots of water also helps.

I would definitely see a doctor for some help.. My anxiety about disappeared after I got and stayed sober for a good period of time. Not sure about detox/medical stuff, nor are we allowed to broach it.. but I did find that working out at the gym a lot helped me feel really good, and keeping busy doing new and different things took my mind off most things.

What is it said about the devil and idle hands? Stay busy. Exercise at an appropriate level for your age and fitness. Read or tv or hobbies or whatever. And when it's time to wind down, try to think positive. Remind yourself why this is the right thing to do. Make a list. Post it somewhere. Fight the negative thoughts.

Also AA meets above criteria obviously. There's a reason it probably the single greatest social motivator of the 20th century. Maybe therapy too. But I think that's a whole other topic.

You may find this useful reading if you haven't seen it already Ron.

I too always urge people to see a Dr. as a matter of course.
I didn't and I wish I had.

I suggest you ask your doctor about an eating plan for hypoglycemia.
I did that for about 6 months and I also took a daily
multi vitamin + a B Complex.

My initial de tox took 3 days...my suggestion is for healing...
not de toxing.

Good to see you in our SR Alcoholism Forum

Exercise & chamomile tea (herbal tea) are great natural and healthy ways to get that nervous system in check. Then a nice long soak in the tub
