How did you spend the day SG? Did you do anything special?

Inc and I will pass two years later this week. I kind of feel like celebrating but I find that it's something so private that I probably won't. Not even my wife is really aware of my sober date. Just me and you guys.

It's incongruous because, while I count getting sober as one of my major lifetime achievements, it remains something I seldom talk about and often skirt around. I guess that's why a lot of people find AA liberating. I seem to do ok on my own though.... We'll I'm never really on my own as I have you guys here online!

Have a great day!

Thanks guys!

Amp, it was funny yesterday. I worked my 5am-3pm shift and came home, made dinner, and hung with my family. My wife had sent me a congratulatory text early in the day, because I told her it was my soberversary. I am still a little at a loss on how to celebrate things, because I always celebrated everything in life by drinking more than I usually would. It is indeed strange that one of the biggest things that I ever accomplished in my life is so private. I had a big bowl of ice cream and watched MST 3K. I think spending sober time and having real conversations with my family is a big reward in and of itself.

Year two was certainly a year of emotional growth for me. I don't have cravings any longer, just random thoughts of wouldn't a drink or six be nice on my birthday, etc. I view myself as a non drinker at this point, which in itself is pretty huge.

Quitting drinking has given me a confidence in myself that I never experienced before. I feel that I am far better to handle challenges that life continues to throw my way, just as you guys are dealing with huge issues in your work lives.

I know that I would not be here today without a drink in front of me at 10:00 am on a day off without all the support all of you folks have given me over the past two years.

Have a great day all!

Amen SG.

And as far as celebrating goes... I like your view. I find I'm able to soak up the positive vibes longer now. It's much better than going crazy, getting drunk, then feeling like poop the next day and feeling regret for celebrating.

Now I can bask is the glory of my achievements for days on end.

We have a running joke at home. I'll jokingly expect special treatment the whole week of my birthday. I say something like "honey, since it's my birthweek, can you do my laundry?"

Doesn't work. But we chuckle and both do it now. And it's grown to include birthmonth.

That's what I feel like with April this year. I've been sober for two years for 19 days already :) After tomorrow, I'll be OVER two years sober!

Happy birthday, dear Inc! Unbelievable! We have been granted 2 years of freedom! Long may it last!!!

Incontrol15 04-20-2017 02:03 PM

Happy birthmonth everyone :)

Hey, good news. I don't have prostate cancer! Yay me :)

Must of been an infection. Doc gave me antibiotics and made me wait 6wks for body to recycle. On my last visit with the urologist, I actually asked if we could just do the biopsy right then. My schedule was crazy and vacation was in the middle. I just wanted to know without waiting that long. Glad I waited.

Besides, now it's a weight off my shoulders. Just when weight is being added due to losing my job soon. So there's an extra spring to me step now.

This is one heck of an awesome month so far.
- Went on the best vacation ever
- Was cleared of cancer
- Moving to a 4br house (renting) on May 1st. Not sure I brought that up before, but super pumped about it.
- feeling awesome for being sober.

Funny thing is, of all of them, I'm most psyched over the sobriety. You'd think being cleared of cancer would be top if the list, but it wasn't "real" in my mind. I had accepted it for what it was. And managed not to stress too much about something that wasn't sure. I attribute that to sobriety.

I just remember how screwed up I was 731 days ago. I was an absolute hot mess. Heck, I was a hot mess 730 days ago. I really didn't think I could survive my addiction. Thought for sure things would get worse.

I'll never forget that feeling of desperation. Never.

I so appreciate what I've done for myself and I sincerely appreciate what you guys have done for me. Just be being there. Simply by being as screwed up as I was... Or almost as screwed up at least ;) I didn't feel alone. That was huge by itself.

Nobody knows what it took to be where we are like you guys do. Nobody appreciates this day as much as you guys do. You guys are genuinely happy for me. You make it obvious and it's sincere.

It's been quite the journey these past two years! Who'd a thunk?

Congrats on being cancer free Inc! And getting the opportunity to rent a bigger home!
