I don't get it...alcohol was a real witch to stop and stay away from...why won't/can't I do the same with junk food?
I know I have a lot of obsessions...some good and some not so good. Stuff like food is hard to handle cos you can cut alcohol out ...it's not necessary - but you still have to eat.

I try to maintain a balance - more good food than bad...and at least some daily exercise...but not being fanatical about it...cos thats another obsession LOL...

Part 51 already... WA is well into its Golden Years.:)

Hevyn 01-28-2011 04:40 PM

Bam - I'm right there with you. I have to lose for several reasons, but just now grabbed one of those marshmallow/rice crispies things & wolfed it down without thinking. Then another. I don't even LIKE those things. So I know it's a way to calm myself down when I'm anxious or stressed. I do think when we try to cut out every food we love we're headed for failure, though. Like Uncle Dee said - more good food than bad & some exercise. It's an improvement over what you've been doing, so it would have to make a difference. I do like the "You on a Diet" book - it's very good. Wish I would knuckle down and follow that excellent advice.

HumbleBee 01-28-2011 05:33 PM

That was a mouthful Hev...yowza!

Hevyn 01-29-2011 04:58 AM

Now I'm scared - I'm starting to think like RZ.

Fandy 01-29-2011 05:34 AM

I see we are working our way to the Columbian Emerald thread (one of my favorite stores in the Caribbean of COURSE)!

i think the food treats are more of a mental game for me....if my head is in the right place, it works...the difficult part is GETTING my head into the right place

in the interim Bam, I have found that if i crave quantity (very important for me too)..i cut the carbs....i can make 2 wraps using lettuce cups...stuff with chopped chicken veggies and some seasoning using a bit of chinese sauce...they are much lower for the calorie count.

I am baking a cinabon coffee cake...and giving it away...my neighbor has been so very kind in the snow..he pushed my car the other am so i could get out to work...and he likes Sammy....

i have no whines today, just grats...i will move over to that thread....i feel good, slept 8 hours and the temps will be 35 today...MELT!

i am sticking with my diet lately, but my head screams for chocolate...i think it is time to get real and get started...i'm tired of carrying around the extra wt. it's not good for my knees or my back....there is no reason i can't act like a grown-up.

Ann 01-29-2011 05:36 AM

Diamonds? Emeralds? Queeny LOVES this thread!!!

http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/7...azyladyhq6.gif

Bamboozle 01-29-2011 06:57 AM

Mmmm....lettuce wraps...might try...I'm hungry now...no breakfast yet....been up playing with the cat. She has so much energy...we've been playing with da bird and her favorite ball...she's not tired yet.

Fandy 01-29-2011 08:03 AM

If you can find boston lettuce, it is very cup-like for fillings...PF Chang's uses it and so does Chili's around here...they serve a chix/veg. mixture with orange sauce and peanuts...it is easy to simulate it at home and i add extra veggies.

if you use lettuce instead of traditional wonton/or fajitas it saves a LOT of the calories/carbs.

I put away the Xmas tree (finally) and cleaned the living room...gave Mr. Recycling man lots of boxes and the house is looking more normal...i was going to do this work last Sunday, but decided to get sick and couldn't move except for the bathroom bit.

now i'm moving on to the bedroom cleaning and grocery shopping....another thing i have ignored all week...i have zero fresh fruit in the house, no fresh veg. and cat litter is getting low....i hate getting into heavy traffic and crowds but the weatherman makes me paranoid....i think i should buy more ICE MELT too.

how many days until spring? 2 days in January, 28 for February and 20 for March....time is dragging for a good thaw.

Fandy 01-29-2011 02:21 PM

i have to write it down so I do it....i am starting up the treadmill tomorrow AM and dragging out my Urban Rebounder...I used to love that thing...and it does not hurt my knees...I put so much of my "toys" away to make room for Mr. Fandy and his *stuff*...i'm glad I kept his treadmill though, now i just have to use it.

I found my book i had put it away during Xmas...it's called "Picture Perfect Weight Loss", it's not a dieting book, it is a substitution book. written by HOWARD M. Shapiro...i made a mistake when i gave the original information....the woman who worked me at the gym recommended it.

Winter in Touisset, RI
http://i1021.photobucket.com/albums/...AAOEMTUQ7H.jpg

Another storm coming Wednesday.
Another *big* storm.
*sigh*

Went to the pain management clinic yesterday.
A clinician/therapist; two nurses; one doctor and 2 1/2 hours later,
I came away with a plan, two prescriptions, (non-narcotics both),
and some HOPE for the first time in ten years! :scoregood

Was in such bad pain for over a week, due to the low pressure systems we've been having. It's like I had not been doing *anything* for my back at all! All the aqua PT, the chiropractic visits; the acupuncture visits and corresponding visits were for nothing because of the low pressure systems! And that was confirmed by doctors and the PT. :>( So, I called my doc's office, crying in pain, and asked for a referral. And I got *super* lucky, because, they called me the next day with an appointment! (Normally a month to two month wait to get in!) :>))

One script is a patch; lidoderm. the other is a muscle relaxer. Next week, I go in for a shot of something in that muscle I hurt ten years ago, that has created such havoc. Pain goes down my back, down my arm, leg, numbness in foot and hand, up my neck; headaches that kill, and double and blurry vision - all on the right side. All because some tubbers wouldn't give when I was trying to dig them out! Can you believe it? http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...keeper/wtf.png

And, if that doesn't work, he's going to give me a shot of something in my spine. http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...ticon/eeek.png

So, we've got a plan, anyway. And, today is the first day that I've taken the muscle relaxer and the patch. And, the pain is much less severe. It's still there, but, it's more tolerable. And, I'm not eating tylenol or Ibprophen like it's candy anymore. And that's a good thing! My liver is thanking me for that already! :wink3:

Ok, whines and gratcies are over.
Whine on, fellow whiners!

Shalom!

Ann 01-29-2011 04:44 PM

Teach :a194:

I'm glad you are getting that pain under control.

No whines for me tonight. So instead I will dispense tissues and cheer you all on. :herewego

:thanks

least 01-29-2011 05:36 PM

I wish you the best results from your pain therapy, Teach.

I was tired this afternoon so laid down at 4 pm, just now woke up!! Didn't mean to take a long nap, just a short one....now will have trouble sleeping tonight.:( Waaah...

Rusty Zipper 01-29-2011 05:45 PM

Hev

Now I'm scared - I'm starting to think like RZ.
http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/1370/haha52.gif

teach,

i think were ready for the Bahamas

and good on the hope teach!

Bamboozle 01-29-2011 07:51 PM

I took a nap too, least. I don't know how late I'll be up.

invisigoth 01-29-2011 09:56 PM

I spent 4+ hours with a 25' pole getting all the snow off my roof and now I'm sore as a !@#$%^^&&*

newby1961 01-29-2011 11:16 PM

I really don't have anything to whine about, oh no yes I do, my brother thinks he is so much better than me because as he puts it I am a drain on society and I'll never have my sh** together miind you I've been friggen sober almost 7 years but that don't count. Ever since my mom died and his greedy little a** thinks I got more than him or whatever he thinks cause he can't be honest with me about it. Another whine is people who are fake they pretend when they are talking to you that they miss and love you so much but then they talk crap to everyone else about you. If it wasn't for missing my dad I may not go home for a visit for a very long time. :a043:

Rusty Zipper 01-30-2011 03:00 AM

I'm Cured!!!

just give it time zip,

people, places and things are laying low,

it's still early

Ann 01-30-2011 03:55 AM

My whine is that all the big things I need at home are half the price down here...and yet to ship and pay duty would defeat the whole purpose.

Anyone want to adopt a Canadian? :day4

Hevyn 01-30-2011 05:02 AM

Ann - you'd have many takers

Newby - I'm sorry you feel bad about some people in your life. Family can be so frustrating.

Invisigoth - All I can say is - 49 days 'til spring

Grocery shopping today. I wish they'd stop with the "two for one" ice cream sales. What's a person to do? I wish I'd start craving fruit & veggies instead of the artery-clogging stuff.

Bamboozle 01-30-2011 05:34 AM

Me too.

least 01-30-2011 05:37 AM

Good moaning everyone. It snowed some last night and the roads look sh!tty...:gaah Supposed to take mom to church but I don't want to drive on that mess for a while... I'll see what it looks like in a couple hours, I guess...

Fandy 01-30-2011 05:42 AM

Hevyn; love the new avatar...camels and sun! warm temps and sunscreen, sandels, sand! sand-fleas, sun-burn..etc....bring it on!

OK, my rebounder is set up in the living room, my dumbbells are there and the treadmill is ready...now i just have to START!

the Whine du jour???? BIG storm coming on Tuesday and Wednesday! i was going to take a day for myself and cleaning up...but i don't dare because work will be backed up....I just keep piling up my vacation days...i get almost 3 days of vacation time accumulated a month.

whine du jour #2....i wish i had someone to exercise with...i need to put myself out there more. There is a woman who lives down my street who works for a doctor in private office...she seems to be single too and goes to my gym (or used to). Once the weather warms up and we all get out more, i'm going to be more "outgoing" and talk to people, Sammy is a good ice-breaker and loves to start conversations.

last year i was still so angry and licking my wounds....(and I still am)...but I need to get over myself and move on with my life...or fake it until I make it....i'm wasting my life wallowing over bullsh!t....i don't let myself enjoy what i've worked so hard to acheive.

ok, enoug whining. Teach, my poor mother has compression fracture in her lower lumbar vehrtebrae....the lidocane patches they give her (along with Oxy) help her to keep being able to walk, they make a difference.

historyteach 01-30-2011 06:01 AM

Least, Bamboozle,
I *hate* it when that happens! Take a small nap to refreshen, and ruin your whole night's sleep, so it turns into a revolving problem! Grrrrrr.... :>((

Hev,
Too funny, thinking like PATTIE! :>))

Invisigoth,
I'm getting worried about that same thing. Everyone is talking about it. I don't know if there are people to hire to do that. I know *I* can't do it, that's for sure! Besides my back, I'm scared to death of heights! http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...ie_hal_034.gif

newby,
Remember this truism:
"What others say and think of me
is all about them,
and it's none of my business."
Then, go on with *your* life
with joy.
And congrats on (almost) 7 years!!! That is a real milestone!
Keep up the good work!!! :>))

Ann,
I'll adapt you! http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...m098bighug.gif
But, with the winter we're having this year, you'd probably be better staying in Canada!

Pattee,
I'm ready for the Bahamas, fer sure!
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u...2008BBQ172.jpg
Ready to pack? :>))

And thank you, all for the good wishes on my pain management. I woke up a bit groggy. I *think* it's from the muscle relaxers? I stayed home all day to be able to fully experience the effects of this new med. I have terrible effects sometimes, because I'm too sensitive to meds, and I told them so, but, they don't always listen, or understand. I hope the grogginess will go away in a few days, but, if that's the only side effect, then, I'll deal with it. Because, yesterday was much better than the previous 10 or so days as a result of them! YEA!!! http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...happydance.gif

I *may* be able to go back to work, since the going back to school, (for taking classes for me), didn't work out... Not too sure how I feel about that! hehehe...

My whine for today is small.
I've got new contractors, fixing the "work" debacle of the old "contractors."
It's hard work, trying to fix other people's mistakes on a budget. And they are very kind and doing a nice job. But, one guy is older, and he's understandably slower. And he has doctor's appointments and such, which means he's not here -- a lot. He's also messy... So, it's a slow go. The other guy is also very nice. But, he's only here on Saturday. He works two other jobs. And he's a fantastic worker! This whole thing would be done by now if I had two of him! :>)) But, it's getting done, and they *are* doing a very nice job. So, how can I complain, right?

I've closed off my great room. It's too big; I don't use it often; and this winter is too cold to heat a room I hardly use. I just put heavy plastic on the doorway and over the pass through window. I can really tell the difference! And I think it's going to make a BIG difference in my heating bill too! :>))

I also set up my ten gallon fish tank. I had the fish I keep in my outside pond in a little
2 1/2 gallon tank, but, they were crowded. It looks beautiful! Now, I'm looking for a nice tank stand for it. I don't want a metal one that shows all the wires and such. But, I'm not happy with what I'm finding. I may have to order something... *sigh*

So, I guess I don't have too much to whine about today! And I took a lot of words to whine about nothing! HA! :>))

Whine on, fellow whiners! :>)

Shalom!
