Hm...I would shut down the computer (not restart, but completely shut it off). Then I would turn it back on after a full minute and start over again with the reinstall. If you shut down the computer, logically speaking, all the programs should be off when you log back in unless you have your anti-virus set to open and run a scan as soon as you restart your computer. Not sure what the problem could be. |
Jay, thank you. As I previously said, I think I have this running in a safe mode. I'm not sure, because I know nothing about computers. But when I did start it up, I put it in safe mode. I think. Is there a way to know that that an anti -virus thing is running? Many problems with this computer over the years, and I don't know, sometimes it doesn't show what is actually running, or I don't know how to find it. So this makes sense to try to uninstall, the reinstall again, but before I waste another 2 hours doing this, is there a way to find out if at perhaps one point I had installed an anti virus thing that is not showing up in my programs and that is the one I need to disable. Please know I am a newbie to all of this stuff. |
If you started in safe mode, go to my computer and follow instructions for recovery...you can go back to the point where it worked. Ugh, i had to do this with my work desk top this week. Microsoft updates skewed everything. |
jynx - Not sure, but I think if you run the task manager (ctrl+alt+delete) it will show what programs are running? My laptop, so far is hanging in there, but the desk top at work is infected with all kinds of junk from the person who had my job and was fired. I have to use the task manager to shut down the stupid stuff. Jay - You just reminded me of something my dog-trainer friend told me, the other day, and it fits you. She says "I read dogs for a living, people are a piece of cake". You have the innate ability to read animals, and I never thought about it until your last post, but of COURSE you read way more into people than most do (like me, though I'm learning). It makes sense that you see a lack of confidence and that bothers you. Not to mention, men doctors haven't proven to help you anywhere near as much as A has and does. So you had a psych dr. hit the panic button. Maybe that was HIS lack of confidence and inability to deal with a situation he's supposed to deal with (IMO). He pushed, you responded, he got scared. I know you don't want to scare anyone, but I agree with LeeLee - I want you to be able to get this stuff out in a safe situation. I think it will be incredibly hard, but you need an outlet, sweetie. jynx - just so you don't feel too bad, I've stopped counting at 10 times that the internet has kicked me off tonight:( I guess if you only pay for the cheapest plan, you get what you pay for, but it's all I can do for now. Hugs and prayers, Amy |
Ok, gonna try this. If I'm not back around, it's because I screwed up yet again. Thanks. I'm just really upset that I lost my bookmarks, and firefox, and most likely all my saved passwords. Was surprised that I remembered the one for here. Will check in later, if I can get on. So shut off computer, but should I uninstall then reinstall? or just reinstall? |
Uninstall then reinstall I think. |
jynx - I've only had to do the reinstall in the past. It goes through the process of uninstalling before it does the reinstall. Good luck!! Computer problems are horrible:( Want me to send you my tablet I never use? Of course, I have it as a backup if the laptop dies and it may do that tomorrow, since I just said it was doing okay...sigh. Hugs and prayers, Amy |
Sorry we just gave you opposite answers. Oops. |
Jay, where you related to dogs, I know where you are coming from. I had an Australian Shepherd. She was the best. She loved everyone. I remember she started barking at someone, didn't know why. Well, my friends son set off fireworks when I wasn't home. I know dogs don't like that, but she remembered him. Then another one of my sons friends came over, nicest person you could ever meet. She barked at him also. He was bit my a dog when he was 3. He had a fear of dogs, she sensed that. Oh, how she loved the delivery men, jumped in the back of their trucks most of the time, and then there were one or 2 that she just growled at. She knew. She knew who she could trust. I have gone to primal instinct many times. I think you will like this new doc better. ((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))) jynx, now going to try to fix computer again. |
jynx - listen to Vee, she knows more about computers than I do and helped me get another antivirus that doesn't see SR as malware! Maybe Jay will tell you about Goliath, his sweet Australian cattle dog? that he had. I thought he was an Australian shepherd (just met one while doing the dog-training stuff) but they all seem to be VERY intuitive. I just have the 3 cats that only let me know when one of the strays comes too close. Hugs and prayers, Amy |
I'm sure grateful for God and friends. I prayed today and shed a few tears and feel better. I am grateful .. I'm going to need a helping hand out of this bit of a pit I'm in (anxiety and depression) but I am trying to make the best moves I can. Going to try and coax our oldest cat over to me now, she purrs really loud for a little cat, and the purrs feel good. :candle: |
Ok, tried whatever. Just going to go with I have computer access with ie. Tried installing firefox, told me I had Adware on my computer. Don't know what that is, and my head hurts too much now, from fighting with this computer today. Will try again tomorrow. At least I still have an outside connection !!!!!! Oh, Amy, those Australian Shepherds and cattle dogs are smart. I also had a border collie. With my border collie, that dog liked to make me feel like a weak idiot. (lol) One of my daughters friends spent the night once. She was really good at baseball. It was only her and me then, so we took Max outside to play ball. She wanted to know how far she should throw the ball. I told her, just throw it, Max will figure it out. She picked up the ball to throw it and Max ran out about 100 ft. He caught the ball, then I picked up the ball to throw it to Max. D@mn dog only moved back 8 feet. I tried really hard to show Max he was wrong. Guess what? I couldn't throw it any further. He caught the ball. Max loved when ex would throw the ball. He would throw it over the garage. Max would look and see the ball in his hand and run to the front of the house. He always caught that ball. Would come running back with the ball in his mouth, and he was so happy. Now Sydney, my Australian Shepherd, what a smart dog. Don't ever try to keep those dogs bored. They create their own excitement. I lived on a cul-de-sac, just wanted to take a walk down the block and back. It was about a 3/4 mile walk. Well, I didn't take Sydney. So she opened up the screen door, and then joined me !!!!! She was also terrific during my cancer treatment. She was such an excitable dog, jumped on everyone. She knew I had cancer. She didn't jump on me. She would lay right next to me, on the floor. I got her when I took an early out from work. I had her in a cage at night, I hated that, but that is what the ex wanted. I remember in between cancer treatments, had breast and cervical cancer, I was on morphine, and had the worst dream of my life. I never before had a dream that I actually did scream out in, I did. I couldn't calm Sydney down. Not until I let her stay right next to me. When I was growing up, we had poopsie, a little nasty Chihuahua. She never bit me, but boy did she frighten all of the big dogs on the block. She had her enemies, and she could smell them coming 20 city blocks away. She was already barking and growling. You know what poopsie was right. Those people she smelled coming and reacted that way too, weren't good people. I now have 4 cats, I had adopted 2 cats from ASPCA. My sister asked me, it will be 2 years ago in Feb, if I could take care of her daughters cats for a month. I agreed. They are still here, so I guess they are mine. And that's OK. So will fight with computer more tomorrow, just thanking my stars that I was able to get on here tonight. (((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))) to everyone. I think I like this space. It makes me feel human again. jynx |
jynx - I'm glad you like it here, we like you being here! I guess you can tell, most of us have our beloved furbabies:) I'm sorry for the cancer you had, but you seem good now? Great dogs you had, they were smart AND looked out for mama:) I'm hoping to get enough of a tax refund to get MY computer worked on. The screen is a bit jumpy, I had some adware when I had the other antivirus, but since I got the one Venus recommended, I haven't had as much of a problem? Better to get it all checked out. LOVE my newest computer guy - he's got 2 cats that hang out in "the shop" but never mess up the computers! They have high shelves to walk around on, cat beds in various places. A guy who loves cats AND is a computer whiz? He's my hero! Past my bedtime, got to get up and do a little spot cleaning of the house as Bev and some guy that needs to appraise the house for tax purposes are coming over while I'm in TN. All the cats will be in my room/bathroom. Mots will hide under the bed, Tiger will probably lay in the chair, and Sam will meow like crazy, trying to convince them it's time to eat. Joe - I see you here! Give Frisbee some extra TLC for me. G'night all! Hugs and prayers, Amy |
Ad-Aware is a free anti virus program jynx, to remove viruses and malware. FireFox might not like it for some reason...I don't know. Most of what I know is self-taught, and I am good but no professional. There is a tech forum here that is awesome, and plenty of brilliant people who know lots. You can ask in there if you like... So sorry to hear that you have had cancer, but so glad you recovered. Lovely about the dogs and cats...I have had two borders, they are awesome. And Ms fat fluff Venus is my darling kitty. Joe ~ I know we don't know each other, but I have been reading your posts. I spent a very long time with anxiety and depression. I guess a lot of us have. Sending you love, and hoping that tomorrow is a better day for you. ♥ |
OK, serious question here.... What is Vosteran? It seems like it attacked my computer, that's why I keep seeing the man on top telling me to ask him a question. It seems even going on explorer, I get only one chance to search for a forum. Don't know about shopping or anything, because all day today I was just trying to get back here. I am not given a place to search anything else. I get one chance. From what I was able to tell Vosteran is not good. But from the times I try to look it up, and only get *****, they have almost nothing there, refer me to veterans affairs. I am so sorry to be asking these questions. I really am. I had tried to download firefox in the morning, and somehow Vosteran got in here. Don't know how. Deleted everything about Vosteran in my progams, but it keeps coming back. I think I am going to take a hammer to this computer..... Really sorry for being such a pita since being here. ((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))) jynx |
It's malware jynx. I am looking up how to get rid of it for you.... |
Thank you. I don't know what malware is either. I thought that was good stuff. (lol) jynx |
Vosteran Trojan Help Please - Microsoft Community This link is Microsoft, so it might be a safe way to go. But as I said, I am only a budding computer geek....I would seriously ask this question in the tech forum. Here is the link: Technical Issues - SoberRecovery : Alcoholism Drug Addiction Help and Information |
Malware is bad stuff. It's a nasty. You want to get rid of it. It is more than likely causing all of the issues you are having right now. 'Malware' is an umbrella term used to refer to a variety of forms of hostile or intrusive software, including computer viruses, worms, trojan horses, ransomware, spyware, adware, scareware, and other malicious programs. |
And you are not a pita!!!! |
Good morning hens and roosters! Hope you got the malware taken care of Jynx! You are welcome here, and it is a good place. and you are never a pita! Joe, its soo good to have you back and posting again. Have you gotten any help from the doc for the depression? I have before. its helpful sometimes to get a kickstart, in getting over the depression. You can learn other ways as well.. I remember you had some physical issues with your back (how is it, btw?), but yoga stretching is great. just be careful, and get doctors advice, if you still have back issues. Kitty purrs are very healing. you can listen to youtube vids of kitty purrs! brain splat this morning(that's not good, I have to go to work), so will try to keep my day productive and uneventful:c016: Prayers for you too, (((joe))). love and hugs, chic |
Jay Hi its been a long time. We have talked and you know some of my story. It's similar to yours. When they locked me up I also fought with all the do-gooders and caused some scenes. Then I met my psychologist he me got me if you know what I mean (like A gets you I think). He told me as long as you keep acting out (I know they are pushing your buttons) they will keep you here. He said "you need to learn to play the game" and you can go home. I was against the meds ( self medicated but wouldnt take the ones they wanted to give me) but once I tried to play the game I got better. I was in therapy for years with my guy and still have issues but I am functional and you will be too. You can do this dude It does get better. You deserve some peace. I wish it for you. Sorry if this is hard to follow. Know you have a lot of people on your side......PEACE T |
It's not hard to follow at all Tom, and hello! ♥ |
Thank you ((Tom)) and ((V)), who I forgot to thank earlier, for sharing your experiences with me... It helps to know that I'm not the only one who flips their lid over this...I still feel like I'm about to bust but I'll keep it under control, I think. |
Hello darling Jay. :) Just let it all out here...vent away. I know you will be out of there soon. |
Tom - SO glad to see you here!! I've MISSED you!!!! Jay - Sorry you are still ready to burst, but you can post here, pm, text or maybe just write it out if any of that would help. Jynx - I also had the vostaren thing when I turned off my antivirus because it doesn't like SR and getting on SR was, and still is a priority. I changed the antivirus to one Venus told me about, and so far, I haven't had it pop up again? Not sure that it's GONE, but it's definitely not taking over my computer like it did. Neither is some zombie thing that crept into my computer that will NOT uninstall!! I also use firefox, as my IE never wants to work. I will, hopefully, get computer dude to check it out. Still haven't gotten my W2 from the work I did earlier, so can't file for a refund. Trip to Chattanooga was great! It's the town where I relapsed, reminders are EVERYWHERE, but I just smile and give them the finger:) Dad and I went out for Mexican food and I'm stuffed. Chic - Oh my, brain splat has infected you, too?:) I hope you had a good day. Love to all! Hugs and prayers, Amy |

Doing better today, trying to put my best foot forward. Rolling change from years of procrastinating about it ..and have enough money to buy to buy a good quality gas leaf blower for my buisness that I'm starting up. Not going to doctor for help with depression unless it gets really really bad. I've been on tons of differant anti depressants and I cant really say they help much for me. I was on effexor for 17 years and weaned off it about 3 months ago, the withdrawals weren't fun but I think they're over now. Doc has me on cyprolex now. I hate taking pills Learnin how to live, leaning also on you guys and others and God It's so mild here in the 'great white North' that daffodils are coming up ....feels like spring time, we haven't even had any snow this year … sooo strange I tell ya :abcm: I hope everybody has a wonderful evening! |
dreamscape, we will support you , whatever you wanna do! you have daffodils? what the heck? we can't get snow,, and no daffodils either! in ohio. You are doing good, and coming here for support, ( and our lovely company) is good thinking friend:hug: love and hugs to all. chic |
Hi everyone, wanted to say hi, before this thing Vosteran knocks me out of here again. I couldn't get on here all day, found another program this thing had install, I uninstalled that, but seems like I will have more problems soon. Not going to talk to that little guy that shows up on my screen, you know, one of those help people from Vosteran. I know he just wants to sell me stuff. I somewhat go onto to SR before. Was able to read but I couldn't scroll down or up, and this window pops up, that said Congratulations. You are the 10,000th visitor to Sobery Recovery, they wanted me to complete a survey for $75 worth of free stuff. Well, I ignored that. How can I be the 10,000th visitor. We probably get that here everyday. I think they just wanted information from me. Sigh, they aren't getting that. Will check in again tomorrow if my computer mood du jour is okay and will let me back in. Have my son looking for a computer for me. This one isn't worth fixing. Not only does my fan not work, and I can't open up the back of it (stripped screw), it overheats even on a cooling pad, and I have a few hanging letters that don't work because my cats knocked the letters off, and I couldn't get them back on the right way. (lol) Will be a pita again when I get new computer as to what should I install on it. What is necessary what isn't. And I promise I will stay away from that download button, unless I check it out with someone who knows computers. Have a good night everyone jynx |
