Dionysos, Quitting booze is a journey. Take one day at a time. With every day sober your cravings will weaken and may go completely away at around Day 60. As time marches on your body will heal and you will feel better. Hopefully, you will come to believe that sobriety is a good thing..

Confidence (rather, the lack thereof) played a significant role in my perpetual relapses. I didn't have any and didn't have a way to get any. You know what I mean? Some people can do that fake it til you make it stuff, but I just can't. People would say, 'just do it one day at a time,' but that was too much for my little brain. Overwhelming. Forever? What is that, even?

I finally decided that I could Never Drink Now.
It's always now, right?
So when the cravings or other beasties came crawling or oozing or screaming out of the cupboard, I would remind myself that I Never Drink Now and damn the beasties.
Still do that.
Some time later, it still works for me. :)

Think that's the way to go for me. I go from having no confidence one minute to being confident the next. I'm in unknown territory as never tried to quit before. Anyway I'm through Day 8.

Dionysos 10-30-2021 02:34 PM

So day 10 almost completed. Took my parents to the pub to thank them for having me for a meal. Really had zero urge to drink alcohol and my stepdad had a couple of pints.

Good Work!

10 Days is great!
We don't need booze to live

Hevyn 10-30-2021 05:19 PM

Congrats on your Day 10 - it will get easier as you go along. Great job. :yup:

least 10-30-2021 05:39 PM

Congrats on 10 days sober! :) Keep going! It gets better the longer you're sober - completely sober, always.

Obladi 10-30-2021 10:13 PM

You’re not trying anymore - you’re doing it. Double digits, man. :)

Dionysos 10-31-2021 12:53 PM

Thanks all. ***** going to get more real from tomorrow as heading back home as we speak. Got work during the day and planning on reacquainting myself with the gym afterwards to fill some time and get back into it. Don’t want to cave on my first day back. Last time I went straight back on the full lash when I got back after 6 months of drinking moderately

AlbaSober 11-03-2021 05:59 PM

Any update since you returned home fella?

Dionysos 11-04-2021 01:37 PM

Sure I got back late Sun and now Thur. Still haven’t drank and been 14 days now. I’ve actually been to the pub a couple of times and haven’t drank so far or even been tempted. The only cravings I get are mid afternoon. Next hurdle is the weekend which has always been a problem with all the time to fill.

Dee74 11-04-2021 04:46 PM

Congrats on 2 weeks :)
For me the longer I stayed sober, the more things I found to do to occupy myself and fill my time.

I hadn't used my imagination in a long time...for years fun=bottle, but I started to think non alcoholically again :)

Good work!

Drinking took up way too much time from my life.
Now I don't have enough time in the day to drink.

biminiblue 11-08-2021 09:45 AM

Dionysos, how did the weekend go?

Dionysos 11-08-2021 01:37 PM

Thanks. I’m still not drinking although have had Jon alcoholic beer which some here don’t seem to be fan of. It’s worked for me and doesn’t (of hasn’t so far at least) made me want to have a ‘proper’ drink. At the moment I seem to be addicted to not drink. I do get a bit obsessed about things and currently want to not drink more than I want to. Danger with that is I’m likely to hit the **** it button if I do ‘ruin’ my run. Can remember doing a drink diary and when I forgot to update one day and wasn’t sure about the exact amount of units I just gave up as the stats were tainted

biminiblue 11-10-2021 07:12 AM

I used a big wall calendar and a red sharpie. I just drew a red heart on each day as I stayed sober.

I did NOT want to break my streak. I stopped with the daily count at about four months, but I do understand how weird obsessions can get in your head. You know that it is just the Addictive Voice (AV) trying to use any and all lies, right? The under-handed tricks to get you to drink are pretty sneaky.

Well done in staying sober. Keep it going.

fishkiller 11-11-2021 05:35 AM

Good work so far!

I have an app I used in the beginning mainly to show how much $$ I was saving but it tracks days also.

You can put in your quit date and it starts from then.

Keep up the good work!

Dionysos 11-11-2021 06:50 AM

Yes I’ve got an app and not consciously counting but pretty easy to work out we know what day of the week I last drank. Just done 3 weeks

Dionysos 11-11-2021 12:24 PM

Struggling on day 22. First time I have to any significant extent. Currently in the pub but think I’m going to have to go home. Meeting friends for lunch for first time in ages and then got the rugby Saturday so going to be uphill the next few days

Obladi 11-12-2021 03:14 AM

How did you fare yesterday, Dionysos?
