Good to see you MidnightBlue, congratulations on the job front. Good stuff.

MLD living in Italy would be cool but I don't think you have to go there for an 8C. I think Matt Leblanc used to own one, a roadster version (maybe he still does)

I can see the Gif OK bim.

Cool pics Mags, I did not know that white peacocks existed!

1954 Zagato Super Sprint (not a great photo, it does not do it justice)

Mags1 06-09-2020 10:08 AM

Don’t you think the 1954 Zagato Super Sprint looks a bit similar to the Alfa Romeo on the grill front part. :dunno

:) How gorgeous.....the joint birthday, the photo of baby Alfie and all of the posts. :)

From me as well to Kaily and Alfie ~

Thanks so much everyone for the birthday wishes, puppies, jigsaws and cakes. Great gif Venus, she certainly knows how to party! :a122:

I have been watching Peter Kay's Car Share. I never saw it when it first came out, I was probably too drunk. It is very funny ... and now I have a bit of a crush on him (not something I ever thought I would say).

Sorry Mags I was a bit vague with my caption. That is an Alfa Romeo but the coachwork is by Zagato. In those days it was reasonably commonplace for up market cars to have their bodywork fitted by a specialist coachbuilder, it was partly a throwback to the pre monocoque days when cars had separate chassis. They often had to keep certain "signature" features of a manufacturer such as the front grill arrangement.

Many of the old styling houses are still going and you will see their names on the side of modern cars - Ford and Vignale for example but they no longer physically provide the body panels, that is all in-house now, they merely do all the design work.

My old Lancia also had aluminium coachwork by Zagato btw. If you look closely at the Alfa you can see it has the signature Zagato "double bubble" roof as mine had.

I'll stop rambling on now before I get carried away.

One more late evening Happy Birthday from here Kaily - hope both you and Alfie have had a good day.

I spent my day drawing stick men diagrams and flow charts for my next project. Not the most challenging of days but pleasing to see the results at the end of it. Little things amuse me in sobriety!

Good night all. Forwards.

Morning Weekenders

Kaily, hope Alfie and yourself are well rested after your birthday yesterday. :) I keep wondering about Peter Kay’s car share. Haven’t watched it myself yet.

Saou, I’m not good on names of cars, I should’ve realised it was a Alfa Romeo. A work colleague has a mustang and goes to many classic car shows. He puts the pics up on Facebook. Pretty good seeing some classics gathered together.

Had a hospital phone appointment yesterday. I thought they’d forgotten, it was two hours late. The respiratory specialist told me he is working with the Covid team and patients. He can be excused anything. :yup:

I see horse racing is back on in England. The jockeys have to wear masks, that must be difficult I would’ve thought. :dunno:

The weather is still changeable and wet. Though hopefully it’s dampening down the pollen.

Has anyone heard from MantaLady at all? I hope she’s keeping well.

See you later. xx

morning all.

I've spoken to Manta, she's hanging in there & will be back when she's ready.

Mags1 06-10-2020 02:10 AM

That’s good news Andy. :)

Thanks Andy !

Well I hope everyone is in good form.
Happy belated birthday Kaily & Alfie

Nice cars Sao :)
I'm still on the lookout for an old Peugeot V6 Coupé by Aldo Brovarone (its proving to be quite the task :) )

Ooh, they are nice. Impossibly rare in the UK.

OK I will leave my Alfa photos with these three. It's a bit of a cheat as these were styling house displays (Bertone) from 1954, 55 and 56 but they are working Alfa Romeos underneath. Called the BAT cars - short for Berlinetta Aerodynamica Tecnica they were to demonstrate streamlining techniques and created quite a stir in the USA at the time.

biminiblue 06-10-2020 10:14 AM

65 years later and we still haven't really embraced those sleek forms.

Maybe starting to get there with Tesla, but those Alpha Romeos are just too space-shippy, right? We expect little skinny gray guys with huge black eyes to get out of them. I blame Orson Welles.

Happy Birthday to Alfa Romeo who are 110 years old this month. I will post a few pics of some pretty road-going ones over the weekend

Hi Sao -- It was so good to see Alfa-Romeos finally being sold again on my side of the Atlantic. And the new Giulia has gotten rave reviews in the US car magazines. Unfortunately, most of the reviews (especially the long-termers) have also cited reliability issues, particularly with the electronics, and I think that has turned off a lot of potential buyers, as I don't see many of them around, even though you can't swing a dead cat around here without hitting a BMW 3-series. Alas, I can't really afford one anyway (at least not the hot version :)

Great to see yo DesertDawg! How are you?

I'm glad they are being sold in the USA again, as ever with Alfa's there is always some flaw in them, even the new Giulia.

Here's my own GTV next to a farmhouse not far from Le Mans in 1983. It has the bulge in the hood/bonnet of the V6 but I could not get insurance for one of those at the time so underneath is just a 4cylinder 1800.

I hope to see everyone on the new thread later today.

Cool car Saou.
Hiya DesertDawg :wavey:
Bim you made me chuckle. The cars do look a bit out of this world though.:)
