Weekender Thread 19-23 October 2018

Hi There! :danse1b:

I'd like to welcome anyone new to SR and new to this thread.

Weekends can be a tough time, and that's what this thread is about - support.

We also share bits and pieces of our lives and the things that are important to us, or make us laugh..anything that makes the journey a little easier

If you've never jumped into a weekender thread before - no time like today...do it now!

Gilmer 10-18-2018 07:51 PM

Shotgun!

Thanks, Dee! :)

I’m in, and I couldn’t agree with your quote more!

CaptainHaddock 10-18-2018 08:22 PM

Hi Gilmer, congrats on shotgun and thanks for the new thread Dee!

Thanks for your post yesterday, Zoeydog, and it’s great to see you are still along.

Early morning coffee. Even though I went to bed late last night (by my standards) I feel fine.

This afternoon we’re off on a 400km weekend trip to family in-law in a lovely rural area. We’ll be staying on a farm tonight and, wait for it Vinny, it has a number of trout lakes (or dams as we call them here), so for the first time in a while I’ll be able to waive my fly rod at them. Many years ago I caught a 3.2kg rainbow trout there, which remains my personal best.

Have a great weekend everyone!

First time for me in a "Weekender" thread. Quiet one for me, at this stage, which, these days, is how I like it!
Spring here in Sydney, with the weather warming up, although we've also had a fair bit of rain around.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

CaptainHaddock 10-18-2018 08:46 PM

Welcome to the Weekender, Purpleman! Great to have you along.

Nice to hear that despite global warming at least the weather is still acting the same in different parts of the southern hemisphere.

saoutchik 10-18-2018 10:57 PM

In!

Thanks for the new thread Dee.

Quitting is hard. Staying stopped at the weekend is often even more difficult as drinking is such a big part of our leisure activities and we are often hard wired into heavy drinking as a "reward" for a tough week. Conversely though it is also the time when the most immediate upsides of sobriety are to be had. All those hours spent nursing a hangover become available to us again and of course we wake up knowing we've not done or texted or posted anything regrettable.

This thread is here for the good times and bad times and you don't have to have quit to post, you just have to want to.

Morning weekenders.
Thank you D for the new weekender.

Welcome to Purpleman.

Kathy and Sao salutations :wavey:

Fishing and a farm sounds like the makings of a dream weekend Captain, have fun.

My body is getting used to the Irish food and eating patterns ie fry ups and irregular eating times..it's a culture shock cause in France we are like Swiss watches. In Ireland we seem to eat whenever we are hungry or is convenient. My wife used to say years ago you guys eat to live, standing up if needs be... I say whatever keeps you ticking.

MantaLady 10-19-2018 12:21 AM

I’m in! Morning lovely weekenders and welcome purpleman!

One of my ex’s took me over to visit family in Ireland and I absolutely agree about the food thing vman. We had to have a meal or were fed every time we visited someone so ended up eating all day everyday, all home cooked and baked and more soda bread than I could shake a stick at. One day I asked him if we could just escape for the day and not visit anyone because I couldn’t take anymore food lol

Another beautiful morning In the north of the U.K. so will try and get out for another walk. Getting a bit bored with not working now, been 4.5 months and feeling the need to get back to normal life but there is just no work out there doing what I do. Still, keeping positive and gonna make the most of this free time while I have it! xx

Morning, weekenders.

Thank you for the new thread, Dee!

I am having my Skype session with the therapist in 10 minutes, so I'll see you after that.

I am looking forward to the sessions because she always take me out of my head which is great)

zoeydog 10-19-2018 02:49 AM

VMan, I've been to Ireland twice and fell in love with the country. Especially the Ring of Kerry area. I also kissed the Blarney Stone (total cliché tourist thing to do, and I heard that locals pee on it! :lmao). Glad you are having a great trip.

MB, hope your session goes well. I know this is a rough time … I'm thinking of you!

Sao, your post on weekend challenges rings true to me. Weekends are really tough because so many of my friends are social drinkers. They can handle it in a way that I cannot. There is always wine with dinner. I'm already coming up with a list of booze-free things to do so I'm not stuck fighting AV! Maybe a good movie.

Good morning Capt, Gilmer, Dee, Purple and everyone else hanging tough this morning.

Hi Manta!

MidnightBlue 10-19-2018 04:13 AM

Thank you, Zoey!

The session was great. A lot to process and work on now.

Hi, Manta.

We are in a place called tramore. SE Ireland.
In Irish that's trà mor or big strand.

STDragon 10-19-2018 04:24 AM

Morning all Happy Friday and I'm in. hoping for a productive weekend but i suspect Nexflix will be the prominient feature.

MidnightBlue 10-19-2018 04:30 AM

Gorgeous pictures, Vinny!

Dragon, at least you can finally get some rest.

Ok, I need to venture outside into my emotionally booby-trapped environment.

Welcome to Weekenders Purpleman.

Great pics VMan, that's a very purposeful looking swan.

It's unseasonably warm and sunny in London which is great as I have escaped from the office. This pic is of Charing Chross and in the distance is Nelson's Column. Technically when I took the photo I was in the exact centre of London as all distances - road, rail etc are measured from it.

John65 10-19-2018 05:28 AM

Hello weekenders,

I'm in, I need to be in.

Have been struggling the past few days and have come close to crumbling, in fact I'm still close to crumbling.

Getting close to five months and I'm hanging in there by a thread but I'm determined to see this through otherwise it will likely be the end of me.

Best wishes to all,

John

Good morning everyone and welcome purpleman.

Your weekend sounds great Captain, hope you catch the big one!

Thanks for the pictures Vman. We’ve yet to make it that far east in Ireland. I’ve heard Kinsale is quite nice. A drive around the Beara peninsula and especially Healy Pass would hit the spot about now. I’m bound to this continent until next June so I’ll just listen to Bing Crosby’s ‘Isle of Innisfree’, sip my morning cuppa and go there in my mind. :)

Today will be spent in the warm sunshine puddering about the garden. A few years ago it would have been beer for breakfast. Early in sobriety the weekends were hardest and now perhaps they’re the best treasure of all.

Happy Friday everyone.

Mark1014 10-19-2018 05:36 AM

Welcome John. Hang out here this weekend!
