Unfortunately it's pretty obvious now, Downthepath.

Cold symptoms emerge one after another.

I remember when I was drinking I used cold as pretext to buy wine (it contains resveratrol which is good for health, am I not smart?) and indulge in guilt-free self-pity party (I am sick and so miserable).

Now I am officially p***d off. I have so much to do! And I am so looking forward to Tuesday's personal boxing class(

:c002:

Any secret remedies to get me back on track in two days?

MidnightBlue 10-15-2017 06:13 AM

What an awesome experience, Hawkey!

My secret remedy is saline rinse for the sinuses.

Here we have Neti-pots. It works every time for me...I do it three or four times a day usually for two days and feel normal again.

MidnightBlue 10-15-2017 06:57 AM

Thank you, Bimini.

I am going to do it. Have to venture out to the pharmacy. I have fever and feel like crap.

I guarantee you'll feel better. At the very least it removes the stuffed-up head and helps the throat.

I don't even take any pills any more when I get a cold. I start using the saline as soon as I think I'm getting sick. Neti is a miracle device, in my opinion. I like the little bottle version, but the pot works fine too.

I hope it helps.

Hawkeye13 10-15-2017 07:18 AM

agree with bim--saline and quality homeade chicken stock always works fast

MidnightBlue 10-15-2017 08:17 AM

Thank you, Bim!

I am back from pharmacy, made my first round of rinsing. Also gurgled my throat with sea-salt water.

MidnightBlue 10-15-2017 08:19 AM

Thank you, Hawkey. Too bad chicken stock is out of question - no stove or other device that will do the work in my kitchen yet.

I will add some quality sleep)

biminiblue 10-15-2017 08:30 AM

MB, can you buy a hotplate or crockpot? I have both, and I also have a toaster oven (a small countertop oven.) For several years I lived without a kitchen...just a small sink/shower/bedroom. I made it work. I'd have to have some way to cook.

MidnightBlue 10-15-2017 08:38 AM

Bimini, I think I can.

Probably the idea of cleaning the mess after cooking without a sink scares me even more (I have just a bathtub).

But those are all excuses, I know.

saoutchik 10-15-2017 10:07 AM

Hawkeye, congratulations on your half marathon!

I hope you feel better soon MidnightBlue.

MidnightBlue 10-15-2017 11:01 AM

Apparently Ireland is expecting some sort of hurricane tomorrow- hurricane Ophelia. When I first heard about it I was like "a bit of rain and wind - be grand". Then I watched the news this evening and I'm getting scared. It must be the hot air emanating from the White House that's causing climate change.

It's supposed to hit the south coast of Ireland at 6 AM tomorrow and hit the west coast sometime around 9 AM. My father has advised me to be at work around 8 ish tomorrow morning. He said the hospital would be the safest place for me and better than being in my attic room listening to the wind howling. If I stay at work a little later tomorrow the worst of it will have passed over hopefully.

I just popped out for a newspaper and things seem eerily calm, but that could be my imagination.

Actually I've a patient booked for admission tomorrow, for surgery on Tuesday. My boss wants him in a day early as they have cancer. Of course I got a call from bed management querying why I'm bringing him in a day early. For a start he is coming from a town about 2 and a half hours away (I hope they will make it here safely what with the weather) secondly they have cancer and they are 70 +. I was told by bed management they might have a trolley bed for them. Sure. Give the 75 year old cancer patient a trolley bed and people wonder why I get so frustrated. But it's out of my hand as I do not make those decisions.

I remember we had a big storm here about 20 years ago. I grew up by the coast and we were flooded basically. I recall that we had no electricity and my dad was heating up baked beans for us in a saucepan on a log in the fireplace. Things seem simpler back then. I know I sound like an old woman looking back with rose tinted glasses. I will be 37 on Wednesday next, so maybe that's why.

Let's see what Ophelia brings us anyway. I live so close to work so I can't see any reason why I can't go in, unless it's so windy that I can't walk.

andyh 10-15-2017 03:24 PM

stay safe Tetra - looks like you're in for a windy day tomorrow. I remember "The Great Storm" in the UK in '87 - hopefully you don't get anything like that!

STDragon 10-15-2017 06:28 PM

Wow, a tropical hurricane reaching Irland. I would have never belived it. Stay safe Tetra. Let us know your OK tomorrow.

fast or last Hawkeye, just getting out there and doing it means everything.

My Wife and I saw induction 'hot plates' the other day for a reasonable price. We played with the idea of getting a few of them and trashing our 1950's style counter top stove. It just takes up room (we have a wall oven) and often we only use one or two elements at a time. It would mean new pots but nearly worth it for the counter space.

theVman31 10-15-2017 10:32 PM

Tetra, I remember the storm 20 years ago. I grew up in munster. It was on xmas eve 1997 ?. I remember it well for two reasons because my now wife and mother of our girl was with me at home at my folks house (bringing home a girl from college oooouuuhhh) Secondly, a big tree fell on a cow shed and I remember my mother thinking it was the end of the world as we know it.
We are all heading back to Ireland on Friday for a week...
Looking forward to that.

Hope you feel better today MB.

Hope everyone has a good week.

MidnightBlue 10-15-2017 10:54 PM

Morning, weekenders.

I am feeling somewhat better, I guess.

Thank you all for advice.

Now I have to get my thoughts together and start working)

Downthepath - I saw your answer on my other thread, I will answer it a bit later.

Tetra - Stay safe!

Hi, Dragon and Vman)

See you later)
