Hello guys

My anonymity isn't an issue, as you can tell by the name. I've lost control with my binge drinking, once again. I seem to let everything I enjoy, channel the onset of binge drinking. Exercising results in steroid use, which leads to my anxiety being worse then normal, which then leads to binges...
I just recently got out of the hospital, last night. I'm now going through a divorce and I am at rock bottom. The only thing I can think to do is chug liquor, but then wake up sick hating life. It's like I get that temporary break from crying and self pity only to wake up, be hungover, then go spend countless $$ on hotel rooms and alcohol. I do not want to drink, but I am powerless over the bottle. Just wanted to let some steam off, let my problems be known and introduce myself.

I'm sorry you're going through the pain of a divorce. Getting numb seems like a way to cope, but it just makes us more miserable and anxious. I hope you'll keep reading and posting here. We all understand how you're feeling - we've been there. You can get your life back, Charles.

Welcome to the family. :) I'm glad you joined us. There is a lot of support and wisdom here. Do you have any support in real life? Would you consider going to AA meetings? AA isn't the only way to get sober, but it has worked for millions of people around the world.

I got sober with the help of my addiction counselor and daily visits to this site. It's kept me sober for over six years now. I hope we can do the same for you. :)

Thanks so much guys! The closest AA I have near me is one hour, but now that I think about it, that is a lot cheaper then what I would spend going and drinking. Thanks for your replies, this site is going to be my crutch, I feel!

I've always found a ton of support here. And twice a week, on Tuesday and Friday, they have a chat meeting at 9pm EST. That might be helpful for you too. :)

Hi Charles, very sorry to hear about divorce. I've had friends go through it, and it sounds like a very unpleasant experience regardless. Were you in the hospital due to alcohol? As you can see, you will find a lot of help here.

Welcome Charles!

I remember lots of mornings where I woke up crying, I felt so horrible. I wanted to die.

I found out that I never have to feel like again and that life can be good.

Hanging in there

Today was rough, but my wife told me yesterday she wants to work things out. Today she's a little iffy, she is scared and I completely understand. We are speaking and communication is good. I wanted to drink so badly today but instead went and rented some movies and hung out with my church family and kept busy. I'm feeling better, still down, but it will pass.

Charles,

Hi and welcome.

The elephant in the room is alcohol is addictive.

We are addicts. I am. You are. Everyone here is. There are probably way more alcohol addicts, alcoholics, in this world than the government admits...who cares..

Once we have admitted it to ourselves we can take steps to get well.

There are always...underlying issues...but the bottom line is...never drink again.

You will go through withdrawals and then you will crave.

It will suck for a while, but then you will get better.

I am way better, but I still crave...a few times a day.

But it gets better every day.

We now know, thanks to the internet, all about the negative effects of booze.

Before, it took a Dr. Visit and/or weeks/months in AA w a sponser to get to the bottom of the deal. It is not just liver damage.

Thank God you still have your family.

You are in a fight for your life.

Get through the detox and then change your life style to eliminate the booze.

Instead of drinking, volunteer, work out etc etc.

Make a plan.

Never drink again. Alcohol is poison. It causes brain damage.

Get well sir.
