Hello and welcome. There are methods other than AA. Read here, you will learn a lot. You can change your life. You don't have to live this way.

Welcome to the family. If you have questions about your health, see your doctor for tests. It's the only way to set your mind at ease.

I had tests done after I stopped drinking and my results were all good so I was relieved.

I hope the support here can help you stop drinking for good. :)

Stopping drinking is the best thing you can do for your health. Have you seen your doctor?

AA is not the only way. Take some time and read posts here, many people are happily sober long-term without AA.

Welcome to the site.

Welcome to the Forum Novie!!

The body is a great healer, but focusing on Sobriety needs to be your sole priority to give it a chance, and it all starts with a Day 1!!

You'll find loads of support here on SR!! Great to have you onboard!! :)

MyShadow 02-07-2015 01:37 PM

Glad you're here, novie!
A lot of folks here have gotten sober and stayed sober without using AA. The secular connections forum has a lot of great information about other programs and methods that you might find helpful.
And you're right, this is serious stuff we're dealing with and I'm really glad you've made the decision to stop drinking and to reclaim your life.

Welcome, novie!

Hi Novie, welcome to you. You are right, this is serious business, and now is the best time to start to set it to rights.

See your doctor - it will ease your mind about the current state of your health, and you may get some good advice about proceding with your sobriety plans. The biggest benefit for me when I did it was to make it clear to myself that the party was over, and with it, the misery and anxiety and depression and sickness too.

Most people recover from alcoholism without a formal program of any kind, and you can be one of them. Check out the Secular Connections forum, it's been suggested already, for encouragement in your self-empowerment approach. It's the one that worked for me.

Glad to see you here, Novie. You can do this thing.

Well tell my self u r killing yourself. Your not 20 anymore. I used to drink and then something would happen, and then I would stop. But now I haven't been able to for years. Now I want nothing more. I had a week, Blew that last night. I just want to be a person again with hopes and dreams. Nothing worse than no hope.

You can break the cycle Novie, you can regain those hopes and dreams, this doesn't have to be it, you can have nothing less than a slice of happiness in your life!!

Signing up to SR was a great decision, you'll find loads of support here, make a commitment that this is Day 1, we all had to start with a Day 1, then go 1 day at a time, keep it simple, reach out for support when you need it, SR is here 24/7/365, also the Dr appointment is a very positive step too!!

I used to think I could never stop drinking too, but with the right support and the great bunch of people I found here on SR, I was able to break away from the chains of alcohol, and then guess what? those hopes and dreams will start to emerge once again, the person we were before alcohol comes alive again!!

You can do this Novie, and SR is in your corner!! :grouphug:

MyShadow 02-07-2015 04:48 PM
