Thank you everyone for the replies. Today is the first day of the rest of my life.

ru12 06-14-2013 05:07 AM

Hang in there buddy. The first few days can be unpleasant, but they will pass and you never have to feel the way you do now again. Trust me.

There is nothing you can't do. Just like the craving is in your head, so is the will power to deny the craving. Spill out what you have left, drink water and rest. Manage what will be your hangover and call AA, or any of the many people that are willing to help. All you have to do is reach out your hand and ask for help, you will be amazed how that help will come from all directions. Good Luck. YOU CAN DO THIS.

I'm going to focus on the moment. Going to try to get some meetings down. Going to be all over this site. Going to read and eat well and enjoy the clarity, even if it's painful and anxiety and desire ridden, of what it is to be sober.

hayley86 06-14-2013 10:33 AM

The things that really helped me at first were eating well this is really important, drink lots of water or non- alcoholic drinks and avoid any places or people that may be triggers for you. I found initially that the thing that helped me the most was keeping myself busy and keeping my mind occupied, every time I thought about drinking or I felt anxious I put my shoes on and went for a walk and it helped. The mind needs to be active if you are not busy it will reach for something to occupy itself hence why I often found myself drinking when I had little to do. The more days you spend sober the less anxious you will feel, its so worth going through the bad initial stages of quitting the drink, my life has been transformed now I am sober. All the best everyone's rooting for you.

I picked up Rational Recovery at the bookstore after seeing it mentioned on a couple threads. Wow. It speaks directly to me. Loving it.

Still loving RR and still not drinking. The beast is not getting fed.

SnwFlower 06-15-2013 11:50 AM

I don't know if RR would help everyone, maybe it wouldn't, but I wish that those of us suffering out there that it would help had access to it. I've never felt empowered in my quest to rid my life of booze until now. Thanks for the response.

Loved waking up this morning, smiling to myself as my AV was thinking of a drunken brunch and I told the beast to settle the f' down, I'm done with his a**.

Happy Sunday to everyone and Happy Father's Day to the rest of us.

Stay strong, one day at a time is how you conquer this thing.

lessgravity 06-19-2013 07:17 AM

Still holding strong.

The Beast is still strong too.

But here's the thing, Beast, I don't drink.

GreenEggsAndHam 06-19-2013 07:25 AM

Good to hear, lessgravity!

Day 6 for me today and today is the first day I've felt great. :)

lessgravity 06-19-2013 07:28 AM

GreenEggs

I know what you mean. I'm not counting days (on the belief that's AV talk) but I feel great now too. Not that the Beast won't come CALLING in a few hours. Even when my body or mind doesn't feel well these days I tell myself it's healing - there's a long road back from the depths we've dragged our physical and spiritual frames.

lessgravity 07-22-2013 05:27 PM

Once again. On the horse.

Dee74 07-22-2013 05:35 PM

'on the horse' is good, right? :)
