Newcomer

Hello,
I am not sure if I just perpetually abuse alcohol or am an alcoholic, either way I want to stop.
I think it is linked to stress, I get stressed I drink, mind you sometimes I feel good so I drink, or tied so I drink.
I have done so many silly things while drunk. Is it the drink or just my stupidity released by the drink? It came close to ending my marriage eighteen months ago, and I got in fight over nothing a couple of days ago that could have ended my career.
Whatever, even after a bottle of wine I still want more and usually add another bottle of wine or some spirits.
I have stopped for 2 days, part of me still wants a drink and I have lost my appetite for food but no shakes.
I stopped for six months last year but started Sept again, this time!
Thanks for listening.
Thanks,
Rob

Hey mate!

Sounds a lot like i was about 8 years ago when i still had some level of control over booze! Have you thought about going to AA or seeing an alcohol counseller, the latter has helped me stop (10 weeks now which fron drinking everyday is great)? Just some ideas for you. coming here to post and read really helps me too:-)

We say alcohol is a "symptom"...

But we do and say things under the influence we would never do or say in

our right minds. So it is probably the drink.

You say you drink when stressed, but also when you feel good, or tired.

Got into a fight..alcohol is affecting your career, and marriage.

It is..probably..the drink!

Don't beat yourself up...you reached out and came here.

So, Welcome welcome to SR!!!!

Just stay on with us, and get that ongoing support.

I go to AA..a lifesaver.

Congrats on 2 days...and good luck.

Last time I think I expected the wanting to drink to go away of a couple of months. The start I expected to be difficult but. I dropped my guard. I didn't talk to anyone last time just tried to do it myself.
There was a festival I go to I met up with some old friends and there I was drinking again.
I will give better try this time

Welcome! You've found a great place for support. I give this site a huge chunk of the credit for being able to stay sober over six months now. Glad you found this loving online family.

Hi Rob

just to let you know when i went to the counseller they got me to do a written 'test' which tells them how you are with regard to certain aspects of your self, e.g. depression, anxiety etc.

Turns out I was clinical for a lot of them which, some of them, is to be expected whilst drinking but others were not right, especially the depression and the anxiety. They put me seroxat (anti depressant) and gave me antabuse (pill a day, non addictive, just makes you sick if you drink so creates a barrier for you to make sure you dont have a drink) and its working great for me, need to keep working on it all but thats the process isn't it and never been happier in my life!

8 years ago i would have told the counseller to **** off and im not going on meds like some crazy guy, so pls keep an open mind to it all, thats all im saying...great news that you are going...brilliant!

Welcome Rob!
You can call yourself whatever you want or not, but I do know that if you choose not to drink and dive into a program of recovery, you can call yourself free!
While you are waiting to see the counselor next week, why not try a couple of AA meetings this weekend? It might give you some insight and I know it won't hurt you!

Rob...Welcome! You have proved to yourself that sobriety is indeed possible...add to what you have learned from your last quit. Keep posting and don't drink! Best of luck.

Hi,
I too, only have 2 days sober, and now it's the weekend. Sorry, should introduce myself, I am Staci and do want to never drink again, but right now it seems hopeless to me. I drink for many different reasons, too many to list .
Stress probably being the main one.
Any help, advice or jsut friendship would be great.! Thanks and God Bless.

Hi Rob,

Welcome!

It sounds like you found out that recovery is an ongoing process.

One of the things I do for myself, is to come here to SR every day and read and be inspired.

yeahgr8 01-02-2009 06:15 PM

Hi Staci

Welcome to SR! Have you tried to get any sort of help before?

Cliff

Hi there - I am new to this website. I can relate to Rob's posting - as I am an alcoholic who has been sober over three years. His instances and unmanagibilty are the sames reasons I pursued sobriety. Sober living is the way to be for me. I'd like to hear how you are doing ROb - keep coming back.

ADayAtATime 01-02-2009 06:39 PM

Welcome to the board Rob...I too am on day 2 and need to cut back. Good Luck, You've come to the right place.
