Badge,
Great items! On the Chinese basket, and many other metal and wood antiques, even with some detracting wear, things can actually lose value, or gain value if you re-finish them. Check online for each item and ask appraisers for advice with any high ticket item, or any item you want to sell for a profit. Here's a good start. Nothing for sale there just refinishing debate.

We brought back some major antique pieces we bought in Tongren Belgium, known the world over for their reasonable to downright cheap prices.

But as Suze said, the "eye" to find attractive pieces worth money is what will help the most. You seem to have it. I look for art for fun at Goodwill and yard sales. It only takes a minute to look up striking pieces online on a smart phone. When we're settled in our new digs I'm going to try doing it for profit. Everything that catches my eye is usually worth more than priced. An $80 print for $9.99 in a $150.00 matted and sealed frame makes it all the more valuable.

I found a Godinger enameled silver-plate last month, heavy, salt and pepper shakers in red white (silver) and blue. I looked the up on the phone in Goodwill. They had them priced for $2.99 for the set. They were worth $45.00-$80.00. We bought them for us.

that was when we got them and the silver was tarnished they gleam now!

If we like it we buy it. But it had better be really outstanding. We have to pay to move it by weight in a few weeks.

FBL,
Hey you finished one set, time for the next set no?

Yeah Dee, it's all good!

I have a cold.

I've tea and honey and lime juice. And Nyquil!

Nite nite!

PS my SH (Significant Harassment) after she was a trim carpenter ran a popular estate sale biz and I'd get to look first and buy as priced if I liked something.

Badge, let me give you the best advice I got for bartering. " If you don't ask, nobody can ever say yes!"

I barter everywhere. The managers love to get repaired refurbished high dollar items gone. I bartered all my mowers and big tools that way with Lowe's and home depot in the off season like now. They still warranty them. Never had an issue.

Morning overs

Great finds Badge and itchy! You’ve given me an idea to visit our car boot sales. My ex husband dealt in antiques and anything he could buy and sell for a profit, hopefully. It was great fun.

Have a good Tuesday my friends.:grouphug:

Good morning Overs.

Fixing a leak under the bathroom floor today.

Have a good day everyone.

Treerat66 01-15-2019 03:24 AM

Hi again,
Leak all fixed. For those who are interested. The leak was caused by intercrystalline corrosion in a 60 yo brass fitting.

Have a good afternoon everyone.

Sounds like we've got a couple of "pickers" here! I used to dabble a bit with vinyl records. I'd scour the local garage/yard sales for bargains and then sell them to a record dealer friend. Never made much money, but it was fun. I have no problem haggling with the local card dealers. The smart ones will give me a bargain, thus ensuring repeat business.

I'm actually working on several different card sets at any given time. That way, I always find something I want.

Have a Terrific Tuesday, overs!

Thank you so much for the information Itchy! I never thought of looking for anything of value, just a new refurbishing project. I am looking at the symbols on the bottom of lid trying to figure out what they mean, have not found a site yet that has symbols, alphabet yes but not symbols. I am not going to change anything, just fix the metal band and give it a good dusting.

Morning overs,

Have a good, peaceful Wednesday, my friends. :grouphug:

Wolfie, I don’t know, sorry but it did remind me slightly, in parts, of Chariots of fire.

Soberwolf 01-15-2019 11:14 PM

Not sure Mags but it's bugging me for sure as it just came on the headphones again

My thoughts exactly. My Dad and I were discussing plumbing as you do :lmao and worked out that my uncle plumb his parents farm house with lead pipes in 1945 and my house was built in 1958, 13 year later and plumbed in copper. Those 13 years saw some major changes.

Have a good day everyone.

Dee74 01-16-2019 01:19 AM

not ringing a bell with me SW sorry.

D

FBL 01-16-2019 04:06 AM

No ringing bells for me either, Wolfie.

venuscat 01-16-2019 04:16 AM

I know nothing about classical music....bet Nick gets it....I will play it for him shortly.

Saskia 01-16-2019 05:00 AM

Wolfie, I am a big classical fan but it doesn’t ring a bell and it doesn’t “sound” classical to me.... sorry.

Have a happy Hump Day, Overs!

venuscat 01-16-2019 05:18 AM

I looked them up wolfie.....they loved using strange sounds and mixes....to me, that melody sounds almost Israeli/Arabic....or even Persian. It's very interesting. :)
