Grateful that Kittykitty came home last night after being out 'catting around' for several days. ;) He's now in the warm bsmt with food and water and catnip.:) Grateful that one of my strays will let me pet him and doesn't run away when I come out on the porch with water for his thirsty self. So grateful to be able to feed and shelter these stray cats. I don't worry so much about them just knowing they have food and water and a place to sleep when it's cold out.:) It's the very least I can do for them. Fandy, my dogs don't like the snow and cold much cause it hurts their feet. They often come in limping cause their feet are so cold.:( |
:notworthy I bow to you Least. You are a great person and I am glad I know you!! :ghug3 Thanks for worrying about me Fandy. I really appreciate that. I'm okay though and my doors are locked during the day when I'm home. Thank you Impurrfect. The puppy is in my prayers also. I did notice he wasn't outside this morning and soooooooo I think they are telling the truth and bringing him in at night. Going with that. Still going to be looking out for him, but as Sneezy said the weather will be warming up soon and so it won't be as big an issue. I am SO grateful for my wonderful dogs that are both taking their afternoon siestas right next to me. Love these dogs. Our cat last night was meowing and sounded so far away. I said to husband, "She didn't get outside did she?" He said no but he would go look for her. After a half hour he found her hidden in our walk in closet. She's the ultimate hide n seeker!! Love you guys so much!!! |
I watch too many Crime Dramas on TV....Olivia and Elliott, Dinozo, McGee, Zeva and Jethro Gibbs, Southland, Brenda and Sgt. Gabriel....there are crazed people everywhere, lurking behind your porch just waiting to break the glass, turn your deadbolt, rush through your kitchen and throttle you with your own dishtowels. Fandy is always darting into storage closets because he KNOWS he is going to get locked in and have to scream for me....not to be confused with Slim who gets *stuck* behind the washer and has to be lifted out with the dog-leash or an apron while I lay across the COLD metal washer-dryer and do the "air-lift" rescue...Pookie and the dog are the only ones with common sense...why run into unheated closets and dusty washer-space when you can nap in comfort on a down blanket in bed??? |
(((Fandy))) - OMG, I watch too many crime dramas, too...don't forget Abby:) I'll watch NCIS or Criminal Minds reruns, then wonder why I'm spooked when I think a car is following me on the back roads..sigh. I had to dye my hair, again, as the last time I left it in too long (was doing school stuff) and got a pink tinge. Took my necklace off, and was stupid enough to lay it on my desk. Mots walked all over the desk and now I can't find the chain. He's not WEARING it, and when I ask him what he did with it, he gives me an eskimo kiss, a "meow" and purrs. It's got to be here, somewhere. Oh yeah...one of my first cats, nicknamed "butterball" for a reason, hid behind a stackable washer/dryer, once, another time hid behind a big console TV, and had to be rescued. Her "brother" Amber (I thought he was a she) climbed to the top of the drapes, then looked at me and pitifully meowed...I told him he got UP there, he could get down. He did get down, and butterball smacked him upside the head, like "mom TOLD you not to climb the drapes"!!! Okay, off to look for my chain. Hugs and prayers, Amy |
I can't watch Criminal Minds before I go to sleep....i get spooked with all the grisly murderers, especially when the back security lighting turns on..(it's very sensitive triggered, it's usually a critter or the neighbor's Norweign Forest Cat trotting through the back yard). hope you find your necklace before the vacuum does!..i just found a long missing earring, under a basket filled with firewood in the livingroom...it was missing for at least 6 months. |
Thanks guys :) |

You could call it Heavy Petting. :lmao I'm sure it would sell well, you've got the comedy knack, my dear. |
HL - I'm sorry that problem with the dog is persisting. I'd be doing the same thing as you, & I'm the last person to mind anyone's business. When it comes to animals I'm different, though - I can get very bold when necessary. Why wouldn't it just come natural to those idiots to take proper care of the dog? When it's cold or wet out, how can they not think how miserable it must be? My babies protected me today three times. First, from UPS, then trash pick-up, finally from the evil meter reader. Being alone alot & no neighbors right nearby, I appreciate and am grateful for my guardians. Even if they do each take up a couch & there's nowhere for me to sit. |
Is there room for a 3rd seating arrangement? perhaps a sectional with corners and ottomans...( i saw a good one at Raymour and Flanagan, i am contemplating it, designed by "cindy crawford"). animal hair question...has anyone used the Furminator? brush/comb/deshedding tool sold at Petsmart....(and costs $20.00 less if your order from Drugstoredotcom). I have 2 long haired cats and a Pom...it is the house of hair, i want to try to *control* it...thanks for any info. |
Fandy, sorry I didn't see this before. (For some reason I'm not getting notifications like I used to.) The sectional sounds so nice, but there really wouldn't be room for it here. Maybe someday we can try that. The Furminator is used every day by us & does help a great deal compared to other brushes. Our two have wiry fur that attaches itself to the furniture like a magnet. I've tried that spray that's supposed to loosen the fur before you vacuum, & it did nothing. I have just as much luck using an ordinary lint roller - but it's an endless battle. |
heavyn, if you can get a pair of rubber dishwashing gloves on...run your hands across the furniture and get into the corners....the fur sticks to the gloves....then i use a damp paper towel too. thanks for the furminator information....i think i will try it the next time I order from them...i like the cash/credit back policy and no tax....they also sell a lot of the same meds as 1800petmeds, but can be much cheaper! |
I love my doggies so much it makes me cry to look at them.:) |
A friend lost her sweet old dog to cancer a few weeks ago, and recently she has started to think about when she might be ready to consider adopting another. It feels good to see some light in her eyes again. Even though she's not ready yet, having that hope for the future is helping her through her grief. I hope I always have dogs in my life - can't imagine it any other way. |
((Sneezy)) - so sorry about your friend's dog. Friend's of mine lost their dog, a few months ago. I actually do self-employment work for him, and was talking to him one day and just heard this pure JOY in his voice - they'd gone to the shelter and gotten two "golden's" - mom and her puppy, and they are just gorgeous (he sent me pics). ((Fandy)) - I don't know about the price, but petproducts (I think that's what it is) highly recommends the furminator. I get a daily e-mail from a vet about cats...sometimes it's cute videos, sometimes it's products that work, sometimes it's about illnesses, what to look for, etc. That's where I first heard about the furminator. I did find my chain. Apparently it got "hooked" to Mots, somehow, and I found it on the bed, where he'd been laying. I guess he really DID wear it. Poor Elvis doesn't like this cold weather, since he's pretty thin, so he's back to snuggling with my lamp. He'll lay under it, or sit up and hold his face near the lightbulb. I have a heating pad with a soft pet cover thing over it, so when I don't have the lamp on, he still has a warm place to lay. ((Hevyn)) - our dog "protected" us from someone knocking on a door on TV. Of course, she was hiding behind the pillow as she was barking:) I've been studying, all night, it's going on 7 a.m., so am about to snuggle up with Mots and Elvis. Patches is curled up somewhere, the dog is with stepmom...for now. Hugs and prayers, Amy |
The Furminator rocks. :) Losing a good dog is very hard. Sneezy, I'm glad your friend is looking for another. I'm an official crazy dog lady, my dogs have been a big part of my life for many, many years. I write about them, train and compete with them, they get me out of bed and out the door for walkies even on all but my worst days, and I work with rescue/transport/foster. Fiona is a JRT x red heeler (my Little Spotted Dog), agility dog extraordinaire, a fierce little thing who wouldn't hesitate to take on a water buffalo. She was born on a farm, dumped at the shelter when she and a sibling didn't get sold at 11 weeks old, I got her then, right about 3 years ago. Deefer (D fer dawg) is a failed foster, a black lab I fostered and ended up keeping. He is gentle, laid back, goofy and sweet as hell. Royce is an 8 month old Rottweiler (the one in my avatar except he's a hulking, beastly teenager now) that I waited a year and a half for, he comes from very strong working lines and is smart, stubborn, pissy, full of himself and a lot of work. And my four "reformed" street boy cats...Gorman, Archie, Cheech and Elvis, who is of course the King. I'm not even a cat person but somehow ended up with four. |
Royce is an 8 month old Rottweiler (the one in my avatar I am grateful to wake up each morning with my three dogs sprawled out on my bed, sleeping the peaceful sleep of happy secure dogs.:) As long as I am able to care for them I will always have dogs.:) |
Sammy the Pom is a rescue from a group I found through Petfinder...I hope the other groups in other states are as good as the one i dealt with in Princeton,NJ. Sammy must have been a pet-shop dog, I got him with his papers in tact but the owners never bothered to neuter him at the age of 4???? a responsible breeder would not give papers until this was done. he trained well with lots of patience and positive re-enforcement...he has a few quirks and recently started snacking on cat food...but for a dog that was left outside and not trained at all, he does very well....he is good with the 3 cats and has his own fan club at the groomers. thanks for the information about the furminator....I will be buying one the next time i order from drugstoredotcom....i am waiting for the $20. credit from past purchases to kick in. i am very grateful every day for my loving pets....the dog was a big decision for me in staying sober....if i was drinking heavily i never would have done it, because we are out and walking most mornings, can't be hung-[over. |

Lest Royce start getting ideas above his station in life, he is crated at night at the foot of my bed (he just started getting run-of-the-house privileges during the day if I'm gone working.) He is entering an oppositional and challenging adolescence. :scared: Can't wait for his next round of classes to start. |

Could simply have been that the buyer just didn't honor the contract and the breeder never knew. Or he may even have been sold as show-quality. Thinking about spay-neutering is changing...I got Royce from a very, very reputable breeder on full AKC registration/show-work potential. His view was that if he trusted someone to purchase one of his puppies, he trusted the new owner to make the right decisions about whether to speuter. There's a lot of health risks to speutering, especially before maturity. Many pet stores don't sell dogs with AKC/CKC (Canadian) or UKC registrations; they often use one of the junk registries. Except in the case where AKC made a very poor decision to collude with one of the nation's leading puppy mills (Hunte Corporation) to register their "product." /off soap box. :) |
Sammy was an out of state rescue...I have to check the papers about the registration, i did not know that...he's a little large to be show quality (12#)...but his dew claws were done? i was just amazed at the story where someone paid over 1200 for him and left him outside all day every day in all kinds of weather with no shelter...the neighbor of these idiots just took him and the owners didn't care....when I got him he had spent a month in a good kennel where he was housed after he was neutered. he very rarely goes wee in the house (i've had him since May 2010) and the worst thing he does is push the pillows off the couch and bed. Every night around 10-1030PM he jumps off the bed and goes into his crate(with a big pillow inside) on his own. I still crate him at night because the cats like to provoke "cat-racing" and horseplay. I need quiet to sleep. Stevie thanks for the inforamation! Amy, i'm glad you found your necklace! |
I'm glad the neighbors got the ball rolling to get Sammy to his forever home! I've never allowed any animal in my care to breed, but I've read stories of very well-bred (and probably expensive) dogs winding up in shelters and with rescue organizations and such, or of breeders having to go to court to get a dog back legally because they find out it was mistreated or the new owner somehow wasn't honoring the contract. I don't get it either; dogs are family! |
my furry family members have eliminated the need for an alarm clock....I was awakened this am promptly at 5.....the dry food bowl was empty...Fandy (my avatar).....purred loudly in my face, flexed claws just enough to pinch my arm and walked on my head until i agreed with him to get up and do what i am supposed to do...FEED THEM NOW!! i found several cat toys in the bed too....they wait until i make the bed up every am and place the favorite faux fur i the exact spot near the pillows...the cats have specific napping criteria....they enjoy the tempur-pedic all day long...i think they like a higher bed too. |
Yippee!:) I've got an appt for the two heavy shedders for a thorough brush out at our local vocational high school. I used to know a girl in the Animal Care class and took my two there for grooming. Great service and a great price.:) No bath, they don't need bathed at all, but a good brushing to get rid of all that undercoat sticking out all over and making them look so ragged and rough. I ask them to be housed in the same kennel while waiting their turn as they do better together. The students spoil the dogs rotten and give them great care. The juniors are supervised by the seniors and the teacher and do great work. I can't wait to see how smooth they look after their brushing. I'd do it myself (do it once a week) but would be brushing for hours to rid them of all the old fur. And it's too cold to brush them outside much and brushing them inside we'd be up to our butts in dog hair.;) I always ask them to put the dog hair in a paper bag and I put it out in the yard for the birds making their nests in the spring.:) I actually saw an old bird's nest once with a fluffy soft spot in it from dog hair, so it does get used.:) |
My Princess puts a smile on my face numerous times a day. We have many games we play together but right now she is in her easy-chair sleeping away. I have seen miracles happen to people's state of mind regarding animals. I think it may have to do with the unconditional love that they give us? Keep the Faith :c010: |
I agree, newby. I believe the human-animal bond is a natural source of peace and comfort for us - there is nothing like the pure, uncomplicated, unconditional love there. So grateful! Btw, your Princess is a beautiful girl :) While I'm on this topic - ahem - 4:30 am I wake up to a slimy red rubber ball being plopped on my head. 4:30!!!!!!!!! Guess my dog woke up to a different alarm clock this morning... Least, love the thought of your dogs' hair being recycled in birds' nests! |
Sammy has his appt. at the Spa tomorrow...i have a coupon from Petsmart. he'll get an oatmeal bath, teeth brush, ears, claws, anal squeeze and a trim, deep brushing....yes, up to our butts in hair indeed. |

She'll lay right beside my pillow, get petted and purr away. I can't even get mad at the sleep interruption. She makes me smile. Besides, after a few minutes I fall back asleep. Isis is nuts. How can a cat have that much energy? I think she's finally taking a nap...the house is quiet. She loves Da Bird...can't get enough of it. I wish I was able to get some pics of her in mid-air--cats are so neat. She'll sort-of play fetch with her favorite ball, too. I'll throw it into the kitchen, she chases it and plays with it for a little bit, then brings it back to the living room in the same area. Sometimes she'll bring it in my room when I'm trying to sleep, drop the ball and then stare at me. And I can't figure out where she hides this thing. It will go missing for weeks at a time and then suddenly appear. The house isn't big...WTF? I'll look for it, too, and never find it. Only Isis knows. I love her. |

It was a flippin' heat wave today at 32 F so I walked Jack and Nikko. I put their coats on them tho to keep them warm. I was walking down the street with them laughing my @ss off the whole time over Jack trying to get that coat off.:) He kicks his back legs out and up and looks like a deranged bucking bronco.;) Curls his back end around and jumps and kicks out and generally makes me laugh til I cry. He hates that coat and tries everything to get it off until he finally settles down and just walks. But his antics trying to get it off of him are hilarious to watch. :) I keep a damp rag by the front door to wipe the dirt and mud off their bellies and feet. Gets the salt off their feet too so no sore cracked foot pads. Then after supper Nikko jumps on the bed, jumping around, barking, tearing up the covers and acting silly.:) I love these little guys with all my heart. |
